Give it more than 6 minutes before you declare victory

It's a check valve. The air pump and ACV pumps air into the exhaust under some conditions. Without the check valve exhaust gases would be pushed back through the AVC, hence the sound like an exhaust leak (which it is).

It's also known as an anti-after burner valve according to my Mazda parts guy. Way back when, I replaced It for $18can. When removing It, chances are you'll tear It apart In the process.

It's your thread title that did you In.

He's wrong. The anti-afterburn valve is a part of the AVC. The AAV does have a check valve but it's built right into the AVC, not a seperate part like the port air check valve.

Do you need that piece if you got rid of the ACV? I just put a blockoff plate there but didnt put that little piece back in.
