Just Got A Header

I got a racing beat header today for a s4 n/a, Is it possible to run open headers and do I need to keep the pre cat and main cat? If I lose the cats how can I wire open the 5th and 6th ports?

Thanks

Bookmark that link, and use it before anything else, use the hell out of it, and read as many threads as possible, like you life depends on it.

But to answer your questions.
Yes, you can run open headers.
There are many ways to actuate aux ports without cats, wiring open is simple, you need only get under the hood and use your eyes.

Step 1 - Locate actuators, and identify closed position.
Step 2 - Remove actuators and move actuator rods to the opposite position of closed (open)
Step 3 - Tie those suckers in position with wire.

Once you do it, you'll regret having asked about this.

Dear god.

I think you should run an open tubular header, and then post the youtube video of the initial startup. Also, make sure to give it a rev.

Yes.

1. bolt up header to engine
2. remove everything that connects to header besides engine
3. wires open 5th and 6th ports as stated before
4. make a video (and post it online)
5. enjoy your super cool ride...

Heck, if that isn't enough you can just unbolt the header and run the engine with fully open exhaust ports

Open Header..... Ha! You will go deaf in a few days. You have no idea how loud it is. I have done it and it is ridiculous, I didn't actually drive it though, just idle and rev. Don't wire your ports open either, there are better ways to make them actually work. Here is a good place to see what can be done with the N/A 7. https://www.rx7club.com/naturally-aspirated-performance-forum-220/

if i had a m3 i would talk crap too, running an open downpipe won't make your car sound like a "badass" people will actually think it's a piece of **** because it doesn't have a muffler on it. use your airpump for the ports.

I still have the air pump so would that open the ports? Im eventually either going to drop in a T2 engine and accy. or build up my n/a engine. full port and exhaust and all the goodies.

Im also looking into taking my exhaust off and putting a set of dynomax racebullets out the back.. any other suggestions on mufflers that sound good and not so raspy?

Please don't listen to all these guys saying its loud, they are just jealous haters...

Yes, the actuators are right above the exhaust manifold, they look like UFO's. One on each side. Remove them and you will be able to move the port sleeves by hand. Remember the position they were in when you removed the actuators, that would be the closed position.

And the only racing beat header that has the pipe for the 5th 6th ports would be the road racing header....

Great, let's make the car incredibly loud and slower than it was before.

At least look into an alternate way to actuate your auxiliary ports. The ones on my beater FC are wired open, it sucks.

Chill out guys with the wiring them open and all. The open header is just temporary for less then a week. When I do put the exhaust all back on though and have the cats on til i get a mid pipe and or resonator I will have them working correct again.

oh my god...

stock motor +RB header = retarted loud.

I had 2 magnaflow mufflers with straight pipes to the header and it was so loud, that i had to wear earplugs.

IT gets SIGNIFICANTLY LOUDER when under load or anything past minimal part throttle.

It was louder then my dad's harley with just straight pipes. :P

Also, the backfires are mini explosions. I was shooting fireballs the length of my arm out of each muffler on deccel (TPS was out at the time :P)

I love the sound of the streetported rotary. After I save up some money Im going to have mine done. Whats the average price for it? How much power is gained? I know quite a bit but in hp numbers.

Also update on putting header on, its been raining all day so I havent had a chance to put the header. Its supposed to stop tomorrow so Im going to do it tomorrow.

seriously who cares if people think your car is badass, as long as you know its badass then its all good.

We both drive S4 N/A's, nothing badass about that though

Im not trying to act like im driving a Z06 or anything, its just ppl at my school and around here talk crap cause its a 1.3 thinking its a piston engine and I race em and they shut up and dont say anything. Theres a few people that drive riced out hondas with a body kit and fart-tube and think its fast because of that. I know its not really badass or anything like that. I just want it to be loud for a few days before I finish the exhaust out.
