Just got an Apexi air intake, how do I build a "box" to reduce hot air from engine?

Well, as the title suggests, how do I build a "box" to reduce the hot air coming from the engine? What do I need? Thanks!!!

Go to home depot and get the aluminum sheet that you want to use. I just bought mine 3 nights ago for $7. Also buy some foam insulation, some corner barackets, small self-tapping screws & aluminum tape. Take the intake off. Get a box a little larger than the box you plan to make. Cut the pieces of the cardboard to the appropriate sizes by putting them where they go & taking them out & trimming until you get each piece how you want. Then take the carboard forms & trace them on the aluminum sheet. Cut with tin snips & put in the appropriate locations. Screw together with brackets & self tapping screws. Then use the aluminum tape to seal the corners & the insulation on the top to seal at the hood. And your done. I am personally going to make 2 of each piece so I can put a thin piece of insulation between them to keep the box very cold. I am also going to make a custom "ram-air" in the front of the box to add some extra HP hopefully. Sure there might be some other ways but this is my way. I am in the middle of it now. Have the forms done, just didn't have tin snips to cut the pieces. Will let you know how it goes if you want.

Hey, if possible, can you take some pics of the air box and post it here? So I can see what it SHOULD look like? Thanks again, really appreciate your help.

Ya you should get his pics because I don't have a dig. camera. I have a scanner but no digital camera. I am going to take some pics of my car all over when I start doin some more mods & I will scan them. I will take a pic of the cold-air box too. O ya, its getting painted blue.

honestly i don't feel any difference between having cold air or not..

the box is also kinda ugly also..i was planning to paint it black...
anyways, it is defnitely a fun projet to work on when u r bored..and it doesn't take too long...maybe 2 3 hours at most

so good luck

Hey baix2:

You have a TII right? I think you prolly will feel the difference more with an NA since you already have forced induction. I will have it soon on my NA, sort of Home-made ram air with a cold-air box.

yeah it's a TII,
well i am not too much into getting more power out of my car, and as i remember right after i made that box...i didn't even ran the car hard and see there was a difference or not, plus i don't have a Gtech thing to time myself etc...

so u guys feel any difference??(to be honest)

there are couple aftermarket parts out there to make cold air..
mariah cold air box (not realy a box, just some seperater), and the head light intake scoop...

and i got a ? on the head light intake scoop...what happen when u turn on ur head light (flipped)...

if u want cold air that bad, go for a FMIC, and that WILL make a whole lot of difference.... (sorry NA guys)
