I cant seem to get into the 15's either. My problem is most likely my clutch that likes to slip going into 2nd and 3rd. And of course my horrbile launch. Hey Felix, how did you pull off that 2.1xx 60' time? Thats incredible!

the best time for my old GXL is only 17.3sec @hawaii racing park
I think 16.07 is a good time for a mild mods NA.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the stock time 16.2@87mph on an '86 GXL 2+2, if that's correct, why are you guys only doing 16.08@87...at least the speed should be different. I haven't taken my 7 down the track (don't plan to...it's a drivers car not a drag car to me , but the general rule is that if you give the car more power you will go faster period. I don't know why you guys drop 1mph, something must not be working! But if I'm wrong then I'll kick myself later.

I have a 86 NA with k&n intake, headers and exhaust and no lsd,

on my first meet (april) ran 15.905 at 90mph 60ft 2.414.

Today with the car stripped out and brand new plugs i was hoping for 15.5 - how wrong was I - it was raining off and on all day - the track was total junk, like an ice rink.

Every launch was just huge wheel spin!

I tried launching at a lowly 2000RPM - WHeelspin.

I even tried launching in 2nd - Wheelspin.

My best for the day was a very disappointing 17.01 - but my friends 3rd gen which runs 12.7 was off the pace too - he could only manage 14 flat.

Summer is around the corner here so I will wait till it gets a bit warmer climate wise before I head back. All the same very dis-heartning day

Do you know how to talk to people with OUT THE GOD DAMN ******* CAPS ON?!.. would you like me to email you, or post pics of the timeslips? or do i have to send you a ******* plane ticket to come watch this car run a 14 second slip? Its not too uncommon to hit a 14 second slip with a light N/A thats free flowing. Ask Agent_D, he ran a 14.1 with less mods than i have in his 86 Base.

Doesn't sound too bad for a N/A. I have a bone stock 146k mile 88 SE that has run a 17.7 at best so far. When I first got it , It ran 18.0xx but then I put new plugs in and it ran 17.7.I can't go to the track right now though cause I broke my differential mount so I can't see if I can do better.

My times were something around:
17.7xx at 77MPH and I think my 60ft was 2.544

Yes i too have seen with my own eyes the base model run a 14.6...calling roy james dont forget to add that it was a 2.0 flat 60 footer and damn near .525 reaction time and that your timing was higher than that...

I also think weight reduction would be a good place to start, do you have any serious stereo equipment? Do a search on weight reduction and you'll find all kinds of stuff you can get rid of that shouldn't make your ride too obnoxious. Lighter Wheels, tires, and flywheel make a huge differece because of rotational inertia. Also is your clutch slipping?

I don't know how the launch felt, but it could be improved by around a tenth, and that should barely cut you into the 15's.&nbsp How is your shifting?&nbsp You should be shifting pretty fast, as you're losing an easy 0.1 - 0.2 each time you shift.&nbsp You're ending up at the top of 3rd gear, right?&nbsp I hope you're not shifting into 4th???

I dunno Ted... I think he should be quicker. I'm running 16.1 at 85 in my 88 'vert. and... I have a cat, not a presilencer... and a 3.909 one-legged diff.

What RPM are you shifting at? Don't be afraid to redline it. Your 60' is about what mine is, so you could improve there. (lighter car, better gearing...) It's not bad though.

p.s. Take an air tank and a tire gauge to the track with you. Drop your pressure to about 18-20 lbs in the rear. Make sure your fronts are at full pressure (I run 40 in my front.) Warm the rears up (smoke them just a bit) before the run, but DRIVE AROUND THE WATER BOX. Try to keep them dry before your burnout (and after too.) I was dumping the clutch at 4500 and matching your 60'

Most of you guys are lucky...
HRP is normally a stupid slippery track, and decent 60' times are very hard to come by.&nbsp About the only time you can get a nice, sticky start box is during the same weekend a big race is happening.&nbsp This is when they spray the entire 1/8th track down with VHT...
