I hate to tell some of you guys but the manual rack has a closer ratio than the power steering rack, making it a better choice for some racers. Not saying that anyone here races or anything. Also the manual rack provides a better feel for the road.

Oh another thing, good find in the junk yard! Cheaper than I got mine for. You'll like it better than if you were to just loop the hoses.

Not to beat a dead horse (im sure its too late by now )

But Ive driven both and I can tell no difference in the feel really, and the looped PS rack DOES have LESS turns to lock. Im sure the manual looks cleaner minus the plugged steering gear and all though.

Thanks for the compliment! Shes up and running well. As for the steering rack, in my car atleast I did notice less turning of the steering wheel with the manual rack but I may be wrong, I never compaired the two side by side.

I've read that the PS rack is about 15:1 and the manual rack is about 20:1.

Nice snag man. I love Junkyards too....lots of good stuff there. As for the conversion from power to manual.....I will be trying that pretty soon. As the TII project continues.

The PS rack has 2.7 turns lock-to-lock and the manual has 3.0 turns lock-to-lock. A disabled power rack will be harder to turn than a manual rack due to the leverage difference.

Simple as that.

I have manual steering from the factory. I think it needs to be quicker! I'll trade the manual rack for a power rack in perfect shape.
