is it a jspec?

hey guys i just removed my engine and got it on a shortblock and the guy that i bought the car from said it had a s5 jspec engine even though its a s4, but the intercooller doesn't say rotory powered it has the normal words but i took it apart and found out that it has a s5 turbo, but could it just be the turbo? how can i find out if its a s5 and if its jspec , any ovious things i can look at? thnx

You can't unless you have the original IC.

I"ve noticed between the n/a's sitting around and my TII engine that usdm ones will have a little plate on top of the housings that say something like hirkojo japan or something like that, where as the jdm housings don't have plates on the top of the housings, and don't say anything. If it's an s5 engine the knock sensor should be above the front trailing sparkplug, if its an s4 it will be in the middle plate, under the oil filter neck.

The distance between the leading and trailing plug on each housing is greater on S5. Meaning the trailing plugs are closer to the leading on the S4. At least that's how the housings can be identified.

The S5 turbo J-spec has no idle adjust bleed screw on the BAC & no passage for it on the UIM.
The J-spec also has no AWS.

i do know that jspec ones have the brake booster line off the back firewall side of the intake manifold. also my jspec only has the low oil lever sender in the oil pan and not the oil thermo sender.

I would say the main giveaway would have to be the knock sensor on the housings, if they dont have em then its not an s5...
