JDM vs USDM S5 wiring harnesses

Are they identical down the the lengths of the wires to the connectors? With a JDM S5 turbo harness on a USDM S5 turbo engine, will I have to extend or shorten any of the wiring? I did try to search for this info. Thanks in advance.

Edit: I'm asking for a friend with an '88 turbo II RX-7 with a sloppy USDM '90 turbo II engine swap. His wiring harness is a disaster and we wanted to know what options he has for a replacement S5 wiring harness.

well, it goes to other side of the car, so i imagine some extensions might be necessary in some places.

Yeah, that's what we were thinking. The advantages of a JDM harness might be that it has lower mileage, so overal less crunchyness in condtion. We don't mind some extensions, just not lots of them.

Ain't no way that JDM harness will match the pinouts for a USA TurboII. I say that but have NEVER seen a JDM harness nor have I ever seen a JDM schematic of the wiring.. Use the original turboii harness and ECU.

I do barely remember a foriegner on this forum posting the wire swap/changes to the plugs, to do this, but his name ??????? got me. Wasn't Higgi. Someone else.

Then again, I found this by searching for JDM AND PLUGS. https://www.rx7club.com/forum/showth...ight=JDM+PLUGS

Thank's very much for that thread link.

What about converting a USDM non-turbo S5 harness to a turboII one? Is that a pain in the *** to do? This wiring harness that he has is scary screwed up so it's got to go.

A non turbo harness to turbo should be ALMOST plug and play. I said ALMOST.

I have done only S4 na to turbo, but I've seen many times the remark that they are almost plug and play. Just what I *heard on the street*. Never actually seen a S5. Rotary Ressureection might have info on his site for that. Maybe.

Actually the ECU's are physically identical and the loom will plug straight in. The only difference between the ECU's is the firmware, and those differences only relate to minor difference in connected equipment. The J-spec ECU won't have the ability to operate the AWS, EGR or split air solenoids, but it has an input for the speed limiter.

Use the original turboii harness and ECU.
I agree with this though. The J-spec harness will only make your life difficult. It's designed to enter the cabin on the left side of the car so it's completely backwards. You can use the ECU okay but get a LHD harness.

In the following thread is info from my buddy Luciu$ who does most of custom wiring stuff in our cars :

https://www.rx7club.com/2nd-generation-specific-1986-1992-17/s4-na-s5-jdm-turbo-conversion-405617/

He did wiring S5 TII JDM ECU + harness into SA and then S5 TII EU ECU/harness into S4 car...

hope it helps

******buddy Luciu$ **********

That's the fellow I remember posting a pinout.

What some seem to be missing here, are the OTHER two large plugs that interface with the Front harness. Ain't no way they will match. I don't even have to look to tell you that (confidence unbribled). I'm refering to the plugs designated FEM-01 and -02.

Luciu$ might have addressed those in his thread long ago.
