You have to look at it this way, if you are patient and look enough, you can find an ENTIRE TII with a blown engine for $1400.

And holy **** Karack! Talk about some work!

I would just throw it in the dumpster and order brand new parts from mazda.
I get sick of seeing cheap rebuilds with used parts.
i'll gladly pay for shipping anytime you want to unload some turbo motors...

too bad so many people in the world are so superficial and have no foresight, maybe i'm blessed that i can look beyond what so many disregard and see potential in just about anything.

True but the car will probably be a pos rust bucket at that price. Its near impossible to find a clean straight bodied fc anymore. I finally got ahold of a mint s5 and have been building it every since. The motor is all thats left.

It's not the point if the car is a rust bucket. You get an engine you can inspect, the drivetrain for the swap, little odds and ends you wouldn't think about, instead of just an engine that you have to drop another $1500 in, not counting shipping, parts that need replaced, and such.

What if you get an engine that isn't salvageable? Chances are Tiger won't refund or replace.

I'd honestly buy one off of here before I'd get a Jspec. Unless it's from Japan2LA. Aside for a few mishaps, he's provided quality Jspecs for quite some time now.

Well unfortunately I ordered from them before I found this thread. The engine will be here tomorrow so I just have to push on from there. I'm praying its in good or even decent condition. If its like the rusted pos posted here I'll seek some type of reimbursement from Tiger. Regardless I'm sending the motor off to Karack.

Don't want to change/de-rail thread but... Karack, do you rebuild/upgrade turbos?

So do I, so do I! Sad part is the rust is so horrible the seals are stuck in the rotor so the rotors are no good, we were able to clean the side plates and housings but seals are stuck to the point of damage if we try to remove them.

Nice work Karak. If you start doing hybrid turbos I'd be interested.

Its not logical to think that you could drop this motor as is in your car and push it boost wise and expect it to hold up. Were talking about a 21 year old motor that has likely sat for quite some time. Can't wait to see this beast tomorrow.
I don't remember what I paid for mine, but it was in the same ballpark as all the importers...er all the reputable importers. Mine was the polar opposite of this engine. Mine had unknown miles, sat for who knows how long, etc, etc. BUT I went with a household name in rotaries (Atkins). Even going with reputation I'd say I was still very fortunate and the rotary gods definitely smiled on me.

I'm definitely hoping for the best for you...keep us posted

Thanks for the best wishes...... I just hope I get something that Karak can work with and won't be too much trouble for him to dial in. The delivery date was moved to thursday unfortunately. I'm eager to see if these clowns hosed me or not.

i can build hybrids based off of Garrett T04x cold side compressor housings. i don't have the tooling to upgrade the turbine side though which is where BNR is one of the only shops i know of that have and can do.

so basically i can do up to stage 2 hybrid turbos.

The motor finally arrived today and I guess the rotor gods were smiling down on me on this one. Visually the motor looks pretty good, no rust/leaves or other bs seen on other Tiger Japanese motors. The turbo even has a rebuilt sticker on it and spins good with no play but i'm still going to have it rebuilt and modified. Karack I will contact you sometime this weekend so we can set up a gameplan for this motor. I hope this one is a much easier motor to dial in. I feel very fortunate that I was one of the lucky one's and didn't get a trashed motor. So this time at least for now Tiger has a satisfied customer.

Thats a FD ECU, not FC. And Nice R-Magic oil filter.

You got lucky. My friend purchased a motor from them that came all messed up. No a/c compressor, no P/S pump, no air pump. No intercooler or charge pipe. The motor was terribly blown. When I pulled the plugs and cranked it over, the nastiest rust colored poop smelling water came out.

Looks like you came out on top though. That motor is pretty clean.

I'm gonna be mad as hell if it turns out you got a race engine. Then I'm gonna nod my head and congratulate you on your luck.

yep, that one looks much better and was probably stored indoors or in a sealed up front clip.

at least i hope so, this motor did fool me. all it takes is a little carelessness for a few months. i would expect more oxidization on the motor though if it had sat in the weather for a period of time.

I ordered an H22A for my Prelude from them about 6 years ago. It arrived well enough, in decent shape physically, but I'm pretty sure the rings were shot, because it always had MAJOR blow-by, and when you took off the oil filler cap, it blew compression hard enough to it would blow a hat off your head if you leaned over it. Though I can say, otherwise it was running well when I sold it, and I still see it on the road from time to time, so it must still at least be pulling its weight.

it's an S5, due to the plastic coolant inlet neck and the wastegate pre-spool solenoid in front of the oil fill tube. can't tell by the pcitures of the UIM, the S5 UIM runner lengths get taller with each runner towards the rear and has an indention for the front of the intercooler in the front runner on an S5. can't really see the oil metering pump or its connector, could be a hybrid but more pictures would be needed. the rear counterweight also roughly looks like an S5. rotor housings are definitely S5.

i'm not thrilled about the final coloration but it is what was asked for the paint scheme.
laid out to see what the final product will look like:

it just seems too much contrast with the white so i will probably sway people from such light coloration in the future after the clear coat darkened up the blue(lightest blue i could find). would look less off with the colors in reverse.

i still need to tap out the threads so don't mind the paint in the bolt holes.

unfortunately will be a few more days for the reassembly pics as i have the vegas rotary car show coming up this weekend and have a few things to take care of before then.
