Hey guys. I was curious if anybody has dealt with either of these companies. Lookin into getting a jspec engine. Does anyone know how these two places are: www.jspecauto.com and www.japanesedomesticmotor.com
Also does anybody else know of great places to buy jdm engines from? Thanks for all the help guys.

Just get a blown TII engine and rebuild it. Way cheaper.

yeah but a rebuild kit alone is about the same price as those places. And comes with the ecu, complete wiring harness, ect. mind you im going from n/a to TII. sorry for not mentioning it. otherwise yeah, your right, and i would also get basicly like a brand new engine with the same price.

Buying a JDM engine is like playing roulette. You MIGHT get a good engine but you might also get an engine in need of a rebuild or a pile of worthless scrap metal.

The wiring harness if not cut will need to be rewired to make it longer. It was made for a rhd. I believe thats the company I bought my motor from. I bought a blown one though. Got a real good deal $400 shipped for the motor, tranny, turbo, and a cut wiring harness. I had to replace a rotor and housing but the turbo was good. Spools real quick. He was a good guy to deal with in that situation, but I couldnt tell you about any running ones from him. He was honest about mine though. Im speaking about jpec that is.

I would definetly search high and low on these forums for people selling motors. Although it's hard to tell if the motor is worth what the seller talks it up to be. If you buy privately, just be extremely cautious.

Ive been lucky, so far ive purchased about 3 jspec motors and all of them have been real nice. Also all the people i personally know have bought jspec motora with no problem. I always hear about other people getting srewed but never really think about it cause it hasnt happened to me or any one i know. I love jspec motors they are always clean as hell. My best advice is check with the shop and see if the compression check the motors or give you some kind of warranty. When you get the motor pull off the ex. manifolds and visually inspect each seal on each rotor. Remeber since your doing a swap theres no telling how long it will take you to get your car up and running so a compression check might be the best thing for you

^^ +1 on that. Get that compression checked. I failed to do so myself and Im praying JRX rotary gave me a cool engine. We'll see, a shop is installing my motor as we speak and replacing all the necessities.

Thanks for all the advice guys. Also, has anyone heard of anything good from Osaka JDM and Tiger JDM? It seems also these are the only companies that actualy have a warantee, though its only a 30 day one, the others do not come with any. Any experience?

Most Japanese cars when they are sold off due to age are "deported" so to speak to places like New Zealand and Australia. It's not surprising that the engines would come from somewhere other than Japan.

Buddy of mine just picked up a motor from osaka. He got a longblock, tranny, complete wire harness and ECU for $1200. Thats a hell of a deal. All series 5 too. We broke the motor down this weekend and the compression on it was pretty decent. I would definitely use them if you could get a deal like he did.
