It looks like they have no more S4 or S5 T2 performance engines left, but they do get them and I got mine, when it was not on the site listed..Call them often they get engines all the time.

I got an engine from Nippon too. I blew it within a month. Now, im not saying their engines arent good, cause the motor had awesome compression before it blew, and im 99% sure my motor blew due to a faulty engine wiring harness and corroded contacts at the Air Flow Meter. I would definately order from them again.

Several things were different. The upper intake manifold was 2" taller. There was no port for the brake booster. No emmission, nothing. All the solinoids were gone/never there. The turbo housings themselves were bigger. The inlet and outlet for the intercooler were 1/4" larger diameter. The surface area of the cooler was also larger, but not much. Nothing really was right, I had to swap alot of parts to make it run.

All this had me puzzled as I was always told these engines are the same. I found out there are some that are not the same.

For what its worth,.... the engine pegged the stock boost guage @ 2000 rpm....

Tae, Nippon calls Rotaries performance motors because performance motors have a different warranty than their other non performance oriented motors.

As far as my motor blowing, After I got the motor put in, it never idled right. It was always bouncing around. Well, I decided to ignore it, and go try to run it on my friends G-Tech without further investigating the problem. Im sure it never idled right because the contacts on the AFM were all corroded. I pulled the AFM off after I blew it, and every pin on it, and the harness to it was pure green. I think I can attribute the engine getting false readings from the AFM, and not giving enough fuel to the motor. Im sure the S4 wastegate not being ported and spiking to 14psi a few times had something to do with it too.

wow, so they sell those type of motors on a regular basis, or do they just kind of get a midified engine in a shipment of engines and sell it as a performance because of all the mods? and when you say the upper intake manifold was 2 inches "taller" do you mean that it had a spacer between the manifold and the lower intake manifold, i assume to create a longer intake runner for more torque?

What size injectors/fuel ECU were you running at the time?

The injectors were stock, I had a Walbro in there, and a RB FCD. No fuel computer.

As far as the problems GLHS was running into, I had the same. The emissions were scarce, if even there. The intake was different, I didnt notice a difference in the dimensions, but there were different vaccum lines on it, and I had to use my a-spec one. I didnt notice much about the turbo. You should only plan on being able to use the shortblock and the turbo. Maybe a few sensors.

Youre right. It was a big no-no. But I never expected spikes like that, or knew S4's were prone to them. This was way before the huge "stock wastegate sucks" threads. Its definately not something I wanted to do.

You live and you learn.
