J-Spec info needed
hey gusy got a few questions quick, im looking at a 90 j-spec motor for my T2, is there anyway i can check and be sure this is a j-spec, also what is the difference between that year j-spec engine and the us-spec engines? thanks in advance

There is NO difference in the block. Maybe some of the emissions stuff, but its the SAME block, and I beleive they have the same turbos...

I don't think there is any difference besides emmisions equipment, and it sounds cool if you say " oh I got a J-spec engine" I am not sure how you can tell its a J-spec though.

Jspec's don't have and egr valve, or the hole in the block that the egr goes in.
Basically you are buying a used engine out of a wrecked car in japan. They are all supposed to be compression tested, and claim to have low kilometers. I think it's just luck of the draw, you could get a brand new engine or one with 200,000miles. The reason people go for a jspec is because they cost a lot less than a rebuild. There is no difference in performance between a jspec and a north american spec engine, they have the same HP numbers etc.

thats cool, yea they said low miles, but it dont matter cuz im goin to rebuild it anyway, just wondering, cuz i have an 88 and i wanted to upgrade to the 89-92, and happen to find a 90 j-spec, so i guess that what i wanted, thanks for the help

Can you tell me what the difference is on the manifold, is it just emmisions stuff?, no codes or anything on the housings to prove a j-spec, thsi is just the block im getting
