Question Interior lights and idiot cluster acting funny....

Ok My clock will stop displaying time if I: Open the doors or try to turn on the interior lights(btw they will NOT light up) The clock also resets to 1:00 every time I turn off the car. I am thinking some wires are getting crossed or I have some cold solder joints that need to be fixed or some combo of those two.

If you all could help me with ideas on things to check I would appreciate it.

the clock might have a battery that keeps the clock going when the car is off, might be dead, not sure if the clock is always powered by the car battery or not though

I get this too - opening the doors or something related drops the 'always on 12V' line to my stereo, making it lose all its settings which frustrates me greatly.

It isn't a simple matter of the door switch, however, since it never exhibits the behaviour when i am in the car trying to fix it.

Its like there is a capacitor somewhere that powers the clock and is also tied to the 12V 'always on line' that works for a while then cuts out, or is intermittent when the car is running, due to vibration.

Actually, now that I wirte this, it sounds like it is almost certainly cold-solder joints.

Well I know its not idiot light cluster joints. I have completely re-done those. I was thinking on the ECU or something.

Thanks for the comments though.

Check your CPU, that sounds a lot like the cold soldier joints in the cpu. the cpu controls all that crap... lights, buzzers, idiot cluster, etc....
