Interesting dilemma.

So, I bought a T2 a month or so ago. It was originally a Canada car.

I have no use for KMs.

Therefore, my question is, can I swap in a speedometer/odometer from a US car? I have one in my basement... Can I undo the gauge cluster, take out the KM/H speedo and odometer and switch in the MPH unit?

good question..and $100T2 I know you aren't lookin for a Guess,But I am going to..YES..and for the Reason that if they were Manufacturing for different Parts of the world and had to Swap Tranny Speedo **** all the Time it would have Cost a bit to Mazda..the cluster Reads KPH..and They always had a Little sticker when they first started Conversion..Way back to put over your Speedo..100 KPH=60 MPH ,30 MPH =50KPH..(mph times .6 ,and Kph times 1.6)...Know it doesn't Really answer the question but the logic says yes..the Speedo cable is spinnin at the Same Ratio.

Should work, but consult with the DMV first on the legality of changing out an instrument cluster (odometer issues), and be sure to document it thoroughly.

The DMV doesn't usually care about odometer readings anymore. All you got to write on the title is that the reading is "beyond the mechanical limit." I think that's what it's called. Besides alot of cars that are 20 years old have already flipped the odometer over.

Just swap the gauge faces. The cluster stays the same so the odometer will be correct but will read in KM instead of miles. Might be a problem, might not.

Well, my MPH odometer just happens to be within 500 miles of the KM conversion, so that's why I was thinking of just flipping 'em.

I expect that varies by jurisdiction, so I'd still want to check. A used car dealer here was just convicted on several counts of fraud for swapping instrument clusters from lower mileage wrecks so that his beater inventory looked more attractive.
