intercooler... fast question

yesterday i took out my car to tune my safc and to try it out because i have put some mods and haven't tested the car right cause i was untuned. ok so i was tuning my afc and when i was almost finish i do a roll in 1st gear and at 7500 rpms i change to 2nd but when i shift, my car just shut off, and lol i crap my pants cause i taught i broke the engine, so i go and try to start my car and it starts and shuts down and i was like wth, so i open my hood and saw that my tmic was out of the pipe that goes to the throttle and i put it back and try again and bang it stars like nothing has happened lol, my question is, does our cars have some type of sensor that don't let the car to start without the intercooler???? cause my bro has a turbo car and it stars without a intercooler and i was just confused????

thanks for any help

Uh, yeah if an IC pipe is completely off, then the mass air sensor isn't getting any flow through it, so the ECU has no idea how much air is getting into the engine.

With a lot of stand alones, there's air flow meter signal, so they dont actually know how much air is in there. They base their fuel load on vacuum/boost level, AFR, and a few others.. with my Megasquirt, I would be able to do that. You could do that, too, if you didn't need that AFM
