Intercooler to big?

Im about to swap a jdm T2 motor into my N/a and want to upgrade to an fmic. I dont have a lot of money left though, so i want to get a used one. I found this one on ebay, but is it to big? Im going to be running 11-13 psi intially, but will be running more when i upgrade my turbo in a few months. How much of a boost drop will i get across this? Also, will boost lag be substantially increased?

Intercooler

According to the guys on the forum you will not suffer from lag or a boost drop through an FMIC.

Me thinks I'd rather suffer a little lag than instantaneous destruction.

That intercooler there would be perfect for an upgrade turbo, but might take too much to fill with the stocker. I'd get it anyway, just so when I did an upgrade, it would already be there.

I really didn't. Boost is quicker if anything. The stock intercooler sucks that much, lol.

But I don't think its TOO big. I forgot how big mine is, but its made for the stock turbo. I believe its about the same size.

If you are considering mounting it vertically in front of the radiator in the traditional manner, then it's too long to fit in the FC without chopping up your front end and re-welding structural members. The FMIC in my FC is about 26" long (20" core), and it barely fits between the stock frame rails.

You will need to contact the manufacturer for pressure drop and efficiency numbers. Be sure to get the pressure drop of the whole assembly (core + end tanks).

Lag is difficult to estimate without actually trying a particular setup. You can estimate the increased lag by solving for time with the internal volume and volume flow rate numbers of no boost vs. full boost, but that does not take into account the new turbo operation. The turbo itself may take a longer or shorter time to produce the same boost level in the intake manifold depending on the pressure drop and efficiency of the new intercooler system.

I don't think it's overkill, but I also think it is too long to fit in the car. I totally agree about the cost of the pipes, especially if it is a quality installation with aluminum pipes and couplers between the tubes, rather than a cheap installation with steel pipes and elbow couplers.
