Intake Recommendations
I know there's been tons of stuff on intakes, but I didn't find exactly what I wanted, so here goes.
Which one would you recommend. I don't feel like making my own. The Bonez or Apexi seem to be the popular choices, why one over the other? Any others that are decent? (I know to avoid foam) The K&N Filtercharger gives only a very modest gain, correct? Last and Stupid Question: Do I need to specify TII or is just FC fine? (I think it's the same but want to make sure)
Thanks.

Those intakes are a waste of money. Go to a rice shop, tell them you want a cone filter and a Mazda adapter (if you have an 86-88). If you have an 89-91, buy the cone filter, then go to home depot, and figure out a way to make the cone fit on your MAF sensor properly.
Hey, what did everybody do to get their cone filter to fit on an 89-91, cause mine fits like **** and I wanted to know what kind of adapter folks had made to make it fit better. Thanks.
I agree, dotn spend over $50 for an intake, they are all VERY similar, just get a cone (I prefer dual funel style) and then get the adaptor seeing that you have an 87. The adptor can be found for like $20 or so.
I got both intake and adaptor for $60. I would Never spend $150 or more like these companies charge.

Okay, but here's what I've been thinking. Why are some of those intakes better than others? Clearly there is something to the design. eg. FC FAQ suggests that the k&n only does 5hp while some others do 15. Size and geometry of the cone are the obvious ones, but does it also have to do with the way it's attached? Those mazda adapters are just a peice of metal bent at 90 degrees that interfaces the cone to the size of the tube.

Excellent article.
I now have more respect to Apexi filters.
I went to a local parts store and bought a cheapy cone filter for $29 or so and bought a HKS adapter, the HKS unit is CAST not a bent piece of metal and adapts the rectangular intake to the circular filter quite niceely. The HKS adapters can be found for $15-25, total $$ spent was less than $50 by far.
If your not on such a tight budget then buy a better filter like a K+N cone, don't buy a foam filter, they are not very good at filtering, rotaries NEED good filtering.

Who has made an adapter to fit their cone filter onto their 89-91, and what was it?
