Intake Q's

Im about to get one of the few paychecks i seem to make and with some of it i want to do an intake on my rx7

Is doing a cone filter right infront of the mass air meter and building a cold air box around it a good idea, or am i wasting my money?

also what filters do you guys use and what ones should i avoide?

don't pay too much for a filter, i think that some of them can be pretty pricey and are not worth the extra money...like the hks mega-flow, i know it is better but i don't think it is worth that extra 80 bucks...

No, excellent idea! You'll need an HKS air filter adaptor from www.k2rd.com (anyone else sell these?) to fit a pod filter on the Series 4 AFM (or you could make one if you're able), and K&N seems to be the best value-for-money filter. Some cold air ducting would be a good idea too.

yeah, i was planning on taking the lense below the headlight ( what is that anyways seems usles to me except looks cool) and forming a mesh the same shape in its place held by an apoxy resin and some carbon fiber(my dad works for a textile company, i have enough carbon fiber scaps lyin around to do my entire car and most of my driveway) to make it keep its shape and stay shiny and put some tubeing running to the air box

An intake is always a good idea, and can be done for relatively cheaply using the ways previously described.

The lens you talk about is known as an FTP (Flash To Pass) it's used for..... well flashing to pass. I am not sure all that much more air will enter if you remove it but hey give it a try.

Flash to pass?

there is no bulb in either lense, i took them out trying to figure out if there was

how does this flash to pass lense work?

and about the air flow, should i just run the tubing towards the bottem of the car maby just infront or next to the radiator?

When you flash your high-beams (by pulling the indicator lever) with the headlights OFF, they don't pop up, they just shine through those lenses.
If you have a closer look, you'll see there is no path for the air to take between the FTP lenses and the air filter, so taking them out would be a waste of time. Have a read of whey I wrote in this post last week.

When you flick the high beam switch with the lights down, the headlights flash. The light is allowed to exit through the FTP lenses, and the lenses protect the hedalights from rocks n' ****.

the flash to pass light work when you try to turn the highbeams on when the lights are shut....i think they are pointless....anyway if you going to make a box use this diagram to help find the best "ram air" spots..it was posted a few days back on the forum and i manged to save it.

Um...the HKS one sucks pretty much. Was the worst all-around for power increase and filtering the air taken in when compared to the Apex, K&N and Blitz. Just thought I'd share for possible future buyers. Oh and on an NA don't expect too much from just an intake. I did and was disappointed.

Oh ya, that will help your future exhaust to help you The cold-air box will prolly help, so definitely go for that.

for about 20 bucks i hacked at the lid to my stock airbox, and got a high flow panel filter to slide in there. noticeable difference in power and sound. i think it picked up just a couple ponies though, at best
