Intake Mod

What is the best intake mod for an '86 RX-7? I was thinking about getting the HKS Intake, but if there is a better one I will go with it.

Stay away from HKS. I have friends who used them on their cars. And when they took them off to clean them the discovered sand all in their intake ducting. Everyone of them reported this.

I'd go with K&N or APC

I had someone at Rotary Performance (Troy?) a while back tell me that when he had HKS he found green filter foam in his inlet duct of his TII.

K&N or Bonez.

Any of those foam filters suck...

Next, dont bother spendig $140-$200 on an aftermarket 'intake kit'

If you have a 89-91 car go buy a corrrest diamater universal k&n for $40 and bolt it on. Instant intake. If you have a 86-88, then you'll also need an adaptor plate for the air meter.. www.k2rd.com has them for $25. Add a cone intake. So either way, you save at least $60.

I live up in high desert like platue(however you spell it) of Mountain Home, ID. Don't have any poblems with my K&N. The wind blows that sand and dirt up to 40+mph sometimes.

Go K&N

Many auto part stores will have products by APC. They have a little air filter that fits perfectly. I used one for my air pump. It's about 1in tall and looks like a mini K&N filter. Runs about $10-15 I think.

I took mine off...

When I got rid of the air pump, that went away. What wason it before was one of those breathers you put on the oppisite valve cover you put oil in ona v8. I think like 10 bones at the auto parts store

I got one of those off ebay. Kinda sucks riggin up a bracket to hold the thing, gotta get creative. Mine is kinda ghetto for now, but effective. I got the little breather filter that goes on the hose to the air pump from autozone for $7.99
Not sure exact price but less that $60 for everything.

Presetlimit,

Check out ebay (www.ebaymotors.com) and do a search for "rx7 intake" or "rx7 turbo." I have seen lots of intake parts on sale for really cheap. For example, here is one:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/aw-cg...item=595922373

They are pretty cheap (~$30) and come w/ adapter for 86-88 gens (you don't need adapter for 89+ models). They are not the best performance unit, but they sure come close to the K&N unit (bet you can't tell the difference).

Also, you will need an air breather for the air pump (unless you remove it). There are many. I one that I like is the K&N (PN 62-1511). It is about $17 and is awesome. You can look at K&N's web page for suppliers where you can buy them.

Jay
