Question Catback...HKS?

I am going to be buying a new cat back system soon here. I want something quite a bit bigger than stock with a good sound to it. The Apexi N1 does look good, but it looks like it will hit the ground easily as well. Anyone have any experience with HKS systems?

Yo,

Do a search under my name, I've spouted often about the HKS 50mm system.

Pros:

Looks almost stock
Nice mellow tone
Somewhat rare

Cons:

Somewhat expensive
Possibly out of production
Somewhat impossible to find

I love mine and good luck!

50 mm is equal to what, 3 inches? lol. Sorry I don't know mm's. I saw a 60 mm system that would be what in inches? Thanks.

Mine isn't too loud, but it's plugged up by the stock cats and header. I think it sounds nice. :p

Ryde,

i have the HKS Cat-Back on my car. At WOT, it has a somewhat loud (but NOT disturbing) nice sound. It has a nice deep sound to it. At idle, the system is pretty quite. It is very tolerable and not as loud as the N1 (also too big in my opinion). If you can find one used, you should go for it.

The pipes are 50mm (~2") and the tips are about 70mm. It looks similar to stock.

FYI, ~25mm (25.4 actually) = 1"

Jay

Racing Beat loud??? No way! Racing Beat is the quietest out of all of them! I have it and it's as quiet as the stock system with cats.

(This is on a TII but of course on a NA anything with a header will be loud.)

sorry I don't know my mm conversions. I think it is between 3 and 3 1/2" The tip is huge though. I was surprised how good it sounds. WOT it is very aggressive. HKS is pretty rare around here, but the people that have them are happy.

I'm running the HKS cat back

Previous owner installed it. I get complaments all the time now that I put a Bonez 2.5" downpipe and cat pipe in. Sound and runs good.

Yeah they make a dual and it is pretty bad ***. I saw it on a 300zx. You mean to tell me the N1 has a bigger tip? If so do not go with the N1. The tip on my Hiper is almost 5" and damn that is huge. Almost too much. Back to the Hiper dual. They are hard to find. Like the N1 dual. I didn't want to wait for 6months so I just got the single. Hope I helped.

im still stuck on deciding. piping is bigger in the n1 so more power gains. thats a plus.

does anyone have some sound files on these two?

Yo Rx7GT I will have some vid. clips on sun from a drag race on sat, so you will be able to hear what it sounds like. It will be loud as hell though cuz I have on the DP, RP, CB no cats. with the cat the sound is much better.
