intake air temp sensor
okay, so I decided to test my ECU for error codes. Seeing as how I don't have the prescribed "self-diagnosis checker" and the local mazda dealers don't either, I looked up the two light method. I decided I would use a voltmeter and just test the jumpers independently. Well, I saw how it worked when it informed me that my thermostat was bad, but now EACH terminal shows a long and then a pause (which doesn't match any error codes, but is closest to code 15, intake air temp sensor!)
That is kinda weird, but not too out there... the really odd part thow is that it only does it ONCE. It doesn't stop and then repeat. It just does it once.
I just thot i'd ask before i go to the horrible task of testing to make sure the resistance is right, etc LoL

Not sure, but you may be having problems using the meter in place of the lights, which would drop the 12v that the ECU grounds to display the codes. The meter wouldn't do this, so the ECU may not detect the electrical load necessary to display the codes.
You can read out your air temp sensor from the ECU, key on, to verify its serviceability...Compare to FSM specs...
