Installed my downpipe today...
A couple of my buddies and I installed my Bonez downpipe today. It went ok, but took a lot longer than we were expecting. 3 and a half hours to get the precat out and then maybe only 20 minutes to put the DP in. Getting the nuts off the turbo was a pain and the top nut closest to the passenger wheel well on the turbo was the hardest to get off. Not sure if anyone knows an easier way of getting it off, but after an hour of working I finally figured out that if I pull the air supply fitting for the main cat off then I could get a box wrench on that nut and work it off. After that (and getting the heat shielding out of the way) it was all downhill and everything else went without a hitch. Oh, and I used some Berryman B-33 Engine Degreaser to loosen up the nuts, worked great. Anyways, here's a pic of the DP installed....looks good I think.
Heh, sure did smoke a lot in the begining....scared me for a sec till I realized it was just the paint burning/heating up. Car runs great and I'm sure the underhood temps around the turbo are going to be a little cooler now. Also went to the junkyard yesterday and pulled a e-fan and shroud from a Fiero. Once I figure out how I want to wire it I'll put it in.

hehehe, yeah it's still in there and I was planning on leaving it alone till I've got enough for a full exhaust (really looking at the RB one) but now I kinda want to pull it and gut it.

DONT GUT THAT CAT!!! Its a good cat(probably) that someone, if not you, can benfit from. Besides, if you gut your cat you could do more harm than good. Gutting it will provide a lot more turbulence in the tail pipe. Just buy a replacement pipe. Save the cat for emissions, gutting it will not do much good.

I hear you guys on watching my fuel delivery with mods; I wasn't planning on getting stupid with my baby. I really only put the DP in to get some heat away from the turbo so hopefully it'll last a little longer.

Thanks for the info on why I shouldn't gut my cat. Now that you've pointed that out and I think about it, that's a much better idea. I didn't get a replacement pipe for the main cat when I got the DP cause I wasn't planning on spending too much on "performance" upgrades right now and I thought a cheap alternative would be gutting it. Oh, and I've kept my precat just in case.
