Inspecting rotors....

Is it possible to inspect the rotors to get an idea or their condition, without tearing apart the engine? Either through a port or something?

Sure, you can look through the exhaust ports to get some idea of what's going on in there. Far from comprehensive, but better than nothing.

So tell me how you inspect bearings through the exhaust port?
How about the rotor gear?
Side seals?
Corner seals?

Sure, you sorta kinda can look at the apex seal groove (most of it) and the rotor faces, but that's nothing close to being a complete inspection...

if there is a problem with the motor it usually is the apex seals or coolant seals that are the cause, looking through the exhaust port can give you an answer to your question but it does not tell you much about what else is going on inside the engine.

A simple "no" just wasn't enough.

Corner seals?
No need to be snotty about it.

Cheers

Most times apex seals chip at the triangle assist piece.
There is no way to see this kinda damage even through the exhaust port.

Yea but ted, just admit it, its better than nothing. I mean if you thought you had a bad apex, wouldn't you just take off the manifold and have a peak to see what you can see? Its less work than tearing down the block for a quick check. Like the other guy said, far from comprehensive, but better than nothing.

mostly i use the port look for when i'm buying a used engine that i plan on tearing down anyways, not for determining an engines road worthiness.
