Talking Inputs on NEW Exhaust System..

Since the last system was such a failure due to NOISE! I am in the process of building a new single exhaust for the NA.

Current thinking has me leaning towards:
RB Road Race Header
2" to 2 1/2" Collector
RB Pre-Silencer -or- Borla X1R
2 1/2 pipe w/Mandrel bends to
RB Turbo Muffler.

I am also open to suggestions. Trying to keep costs and noise at a minumum. I was banned from running the last AUTO-X due to Excessive noise.

I have also considered a Supertrapp Silenecer on the pipe so I can remove baffles when I need to tone it down for Sports Car Communist of America Events. JOhn

with the rb silercer and muffler you should be within the limits by far, i am running the rb header, bonez cat and apexi N1 and it's not to loud for auto X. should make more power than your 3" system.

It's still going to be loud. Are you going with Dual RB mufflers or single?

My setup is the RB Street Header, RB Silencer, and RB NA Cat-back (Dual). My engine is ported with the exhuast diffusers removed. At idle it's livable. AT wot my wife can hear me coming from over a mile away.

Thinking of Sngle, Trying to build a usable combination at a reasonable/minumal cost. But I don't want tp have to do it again due to bad design

My plans include the RB Header/Collector (or one made from their header-kit) to a Catalytic converter converted to a presilencer (2½" preforated tube, w/ steel packing; I have visual inspections in MO) to a custom, mandrel 2½" catback, CS muffler, CS silencer.

I'm just hoping it won't be so loud I'll have to re-invest in amplifiers @ cruise.

Go check out the RX7store.net link at the top of the page. The Mindtrain headers are equal length and very nice. The cheapest start out at $169 and they go up from there. Their header that has 2 1/4" tubes and the one above that are way too big and you'd lose too much low end but the others should be great. I like them better than the Racing Beat headers since the bends are more gradual. The Racing Beat muffler works very well and the presilencer helps a little too. They are both very expensive though. I personally don't like Supertrapps. They only quiet decently when they restrict the most. So much for power. When you get them to where they give good power they don't muffle very well. See the problem? They were designed by a motorcycle guy for use on his bikes (Harley style not crotch rocket) and many of these guys change the exhausts for loudness not power. Stick to a muffler designed for a car especially a rotary powered one.

this is the exact system i have now, with the RB Road Race header into a RB collector (modified at the single end to a 2.5") and from there on out its single custom 2.5" piping into a passenger side single exit turbo RB muffler, no cats, no presilencers... its not that loud, ive been told different while im at WOT while they are outside the car (sounds like a sport bike)... but i dont think its that bad, i mean i havent gotten any fix it tickets from it ("knock on wood") probably because its not a huge fart cannon, but ive driven by plenty of cops and they dont seem to mind.

but then again, its on a stock port motor, within the next month or 2 i'll be getting a rebuild with a large streetport, or maybe more, and throwing a carbsetup on it, so ill have to get back to you on that one...

but its definitely a nice setup for top end, and i've been told by rotarypower (where im getting my rebuild) that with just the port and some 3mm seals, with my current setup i'll be pushing about 200rwhp...

I guess I am just weird, but I would go with the RB collected header, presilencer, and NA dual cat back. I have heard a car (stock ports) with this exhaust and it was almost civilized in noise level. With your TII sleeves (and some other porting?) it might sound just right.

This is my setup. Don't get me wrong, the sound is nice and the pre-silencer made the tone deeper. It's just a little to loud above 4000 or so RPM. Makes it hard to sneek by the cops when you can't rev more than 4000.

On the track, nobody would mind. On the street, everyone looks.

Has anyone thought about installing somthing like this in the collector?
