Injectors??
First, thanks to this site and the people who contribute the great troubleshooting and repair information! I have been able to diagnose and repair any problems I've come across with my RX.
You are the Bomb!!
But I have a question that I haven't found an answer for yet (Yes, I'm good at using search) and also a "pending" fix that has so far stopped my hot start (flooding) problem.
I have an 88 FC about 5,500 on the engine rebuild. Hot starts have become a problem.
Question: Where the injectors go into the injector holes, the injectors are loose in the holes (not screwed in tight). I this correct? I can't find anything related to how the injectors should fit in the injector holes.
And so far 100% starts in 15 starts (which is way better than before I tried this), I loosened the pressurized gas cap! That way if the injectors are leaking, fuel can go back towards the tank instead of dribbling into the engine. So far, so good...at least until I can sort all this out!
Thanks again!

The next time you have the injectors out........check the grommets where the injector meets the houlsing. They should be resilent. They should NOT be rock hard. If they are rock hard.....go buy new grommets and o'rings. The injectors with new grommets and o'rings will still move in the hole after the rail is installed, but barely.
The rock hard grommets WILL cause idle problems in the form of and unauthorized air leak. So plan ahead and buy the complete set of grommets and o'rings for your engine and install them when you get ready to.
That's interesting about the gas cap. Never seen that one before. Ida thought that the 20/40 psi in the fuel rail would be able to overcome any pressure in the tank. But your there and seen the results, so I bow to what you see/saw.

Great! Now I know they are not loose (injectors). They will be pulled and cleaned, so I will replace all grommets before reinstalling.
No, no compression tests in the last 4,000 miles. That really needs to be done. It will drive me crazy until I rule that out completly.
Actually, my roommate came up with the gas cap thing (as I said, "pending"). She is a diesel mechanic and I've driven a diesel since 88, so we are both learning about "rotarys"! You would think that about the rail pressure...that makes the best sense...but I'm learning fast, my car doesn't always have the best sense ! LOL
~maybe it was the sacrifices i've been making to the goddess Seven~
hummm....I'll keep you posted!

Rotors still spinning

The older RX-7's would quite often suffer flooding or hot start issues from slightly leaky fuel injectors. After a while they get gummed up a little and don't close all the way. Whatever pressure is left in the lines then just pushes fuel through this small opening and into the engine where it puddles.
