Question Injector Problems

I put a jspec ngine in my 87 T2. I had spark problems and after replaceing the ECU 2 times, and new coils and ignitors we now have spark. I don't have injectors though. I tryed spining the CAS no clicks, it sounds like it may get 1 when you first spin it. I used the jspec injectors, but still have the aspec harness and ECU. Any ideas on trouble shooting this? THANKS

Is the Solenoid Resistor Package plugged in?

If you need to know what it looks like do a Search and put in SOLENOID RESISTOR PACKAGE and for a name put in HAILERS. You should get several hits and several have jpgs of the item plus words to confuse any and all.

It's located a half foot below the afm/filter assy and is aluminum in color with ONE large electrical plug. The BlackYellow wire in that plug should have 12vdc with the key to ON.

No need to suspect the cas wiring since you have spark. Suspect the lack of 12vdc to and from the solenoid resistor package thru the injectors to the ECU.

Also check the ground for the ECU which is a ring terminal on top of the rear rotor housing. You can see it clearly with the throttle body removed OR ohm it out thru the ECU pins 2R , 3A, 3G.........I think. If wrong I'll correct those pinouts.

You should consider if you have not already, the impedence/resistance of the fuel injectors in the JSPEC engine.

Your car, if early 87 and with the solenoid resistor needs to see low resistance injectors. If you car HAS NO PROVISION FOR A SOLENOID RESISTOR, then you need high resistace injectors.

If there is no solenoid resistor plug under your afm/air filter, then you have a car built later than 87 1/2 and you don't get one so ignore what I said in my first post about the solenoid resistor package.

If you car gets no solenoid resistor package, then pull the small plug on the ECU and look for 12vdc on pins 3C, 3E, 3F and 3H. No voltage there with the key to ON? Then you need to see if the two fairly large yellow plugs on the emission harness inside the car are plugged in complete. I'm NOT talking about the two to the ECU. We're talking about the two dark yellow ones up above and to the right of the passengers right foot. Waaaaay up there hidden. Gotta have those plugged in. One carries 12vdc ona black/yellow wire from the Main Relay......thru the injectors........to the ECU pins listed.

I've never seen a bad Main Relay. It also supplies voltage for your fuel pump and spark so I doubt it's bad. Check the EGI COMP and the EGI INJECTOR fuses in the engine bay. Kinda important.

I do have a solenoid resistor. I have over 12 volts at blk/yel. When I uplug the small plug on ECU with the key on the injectors start clicking very fast.

It;s much more likely your hearing the bac pulsing at 120hz. Pull the bac plug off and I think the clicking will go away.

I pulled the BAC plug and it is still clicking. I used a stethoscope to listen and it is definitely the injectors.

The injectors won't do anything unless the CAS is spinning. No way, no how. It's a fundamental part of how EFI works, since all injector timing comes from the CAS.

Get a DMM that can measure frequency and duty cycle and use it to verify what the injectors are doing while cranking. I'm assuming you've already checked fuel supply, and have pressure at the injectors.

Do as recommended in the post above, but, I think I know what is happening. REAlly.

If the small plug is off the ECU there ain't a no way the injectors can pulse. BUT if you have the key to ON and the fuel pump check connector jumpered there is a good chance your hearing the PD pulse. It makes a ticking sound if the fuel pump is a pumpin. See the FSM and in it they have you listening for the ticking of the PD. That's the only reasonable explanation for the sound you hear.
