injected to carb

new to this rx7 stuff, ihave a 1991- non turbo, the car just doesnt run right, i got it with air pump off, have replaced o2 and done basic tuneup, seems to run really rich, backfires and pops when i let off the gas. i wanted to know what i need to do to make this thing carbed. or if anyone has any other suggestions.

on reason your car doesnt run right is that the air pump is gone..... 89-91 N/A's use the air pump to supply pressure to open the 5th and 6th port actuators...

You really need to put that airpump back on and make sure everything is still working.

If your six ports are wired open all the time, your low end is gonna suck...

oh thats right, ,your new.... look down on the passenger side of the engine, above the exhaust manifold on the lower intake manifold... there SHOULD be two round metal barrel lookin things with rods sticking out of them, there is one on the front of the engine and one on the back... the ends of the rods have a linkage on them thats supposed to be hooked up to a lever attached to a rod that runs into the lower intake manifold. These are your six-port actuators...

We need to know if they are hooked up, ,and if they are.. if you can move the shafts or if they are locked up

mine did this for a bit. my motor recently blew on startup. if i had money, i'd bet low compression. carb won't solve that. in fact, carbs don't solve much in the long run. automakers went to EFI for a good reason. i've been there, though. carb sounds like a good solution, but i vote against it.

throttle body? i believe those are a "no no" as far as adjusting. i highly advise checking the compression.
