Increase corning G's by twisting strut mounts?
Increase corning G's by twisting strut mounts?
I've heard that a dramatic increase in cornering potential can be found by simply unbolting, and rotating the front strut mounts. Could someone please explain the steps and requirments to do this, and any possible negatives.
Thanks alot,
Andrew.

yes it most definitely can be done but don't expect more than about a half of a degree more negative camber. I had an alignment shop I trust do this. Now, I have a little negative up front. out on the track I did feel a difference but you really need about negative 2.5 degrees to really feel an increase in cornering force but every bit helps. if you wanna raise cornering g's than buy toyo ra-1s. Those will help alot and they are street legal (but probably won't last more than 5-7k mi with a perfect alignment)
YES!
Rotating your top strut mounting position will increase BOTH camber and castor. Simply jack your car up, unbolt all the bolts holding your struts to there towers (four bolts per strut, LEAVE THE MIDDLE BOLT ALONE). Rotate them so the center bolt is toward the engine and fire wall. You can further gain more negative camber by buying Engals concentric strut bolts. Its a hell lot cheaper then full pillow ball strut camber plates with siomular results. Its simply a cam'ed bolt that replaces the top bolt on the lower portion of the strut that hold the spindle carrier to the strut body.

is there any issue when doing this with electronically controlled suspenion? where can i get these 'cam-ed' strut bolts?
can you please describe which way to turn the mounts?
thanks,
Andrew.

First off..... I'd be extremely surprised to find anyone with the electronic suspension still actually working. Second I'd be REALLY surprised to find someone interested in performance still using the stock struts which by now probly have in excess of 100K miles on them.
For the strut roatating mod, just make sure the nut in the center is pointed toward the motor and toward the firewall (inward and back).
For the Engals ecentric bolts, do a web search, there every were. Call them, email them with nwhat you have, and what you want to do.
