CA Importing 2nd gen

just wanted to get everyone's opinions on this topic. FC3S is by far my idea of the perfect rx-7, but that's jus me. rotary ftw. is it true it's easier to import an FC than FD? I'm located in so cal, so how difficult would this be overall??

for a track car its not that hard at all if you have lots of $$$ and a hookup in japan.
(or just buy one that is already here)

Just go up to Canada and bring one down. They're RHD and have J-Spec motors (already turbo'd). It'd be a lot easier. Search google for places that do it. Plus, you're in Cali so getting it legalized shouldn't be to bad.

^^^ the ones out here are lacking 3 letters, J D M.. that adds 100 points to the cool factor

pffff im messin..
Unless you where to get a efini gtx or one of those late model FCs or something.. and not mod it.. Once you start modding it you might as well just used a USDM chassis. Or if you buy one thats already modded.

But as far as being legalized, too much hassle and waste of money since you could have a US counterpart that doesnt need anything done.

You might as well shoot for a FD chassis since i think they are cheap in japan... out here in the US they still hold some value.

choose your pick and have someone bring it over for you lol

Your in california?? hit up http://gspeedcorp.com/
they bring jdm cars in fairly cheap

They got a Cosmo rolling chassis for $2k

Jay Leno likes rotarys, he has an original cosmo, he should pick this up and restore it =p
you could probably drive it on the street with no troubles for a while illegally since police might think its an old buick or something lol

i wouldnt think twice about one of the jdm honda chassis they got.. too much attention

I'd like to see a built-up Cosmo with a huge turbo. If I had $20,000 lying around I'd totally do it. And come on, how often do you get to say, 'Yeah, the 20B just dropped right in'

You get caught, it's a BIG fine.

To the OP being in Cali...
Emissions and smog are going to eat you alive.

It can be done...

It just depends on how much money you want to spend.

Still trying to figure out why someone would go to all that trouble when you can buy a turbo'd FC here... Enlighten me please.

I have had J-spec motors in my USspec cars... Haven't noticed any power differences..

CA jdm fc3s in so cal

well
in my opinion
its better to just buy a usdm one and drop the jspec

i found a place that had a rhd 180
and trying to figure out how to register it was a hella pain in the ***
i believe
it has to pass smog for the first part
you have to have the japanese title
that way the dmv knows its not stolen from japan and shipped over here
you have to get it inspected by the DMV
umm what else
oh you have to get a set of vin numbers here
its a pain in the *** really
your better off getting one here
to much drama in the DMV for getting the car legal in the US
plus half the time they dont know what they are talking about

so yeah
USDM + JSPEC ENGINE FTW

my opinion
or the Canada option which was suggested
but idk how that works
pretty sure it should be way easier

Go to japan-partner.com, setup an acount. If your not worried about it being legal, tell them to take it apart and ship the body and drivetrain seperate and when it gets here put it back together. The shipping is a little pricey but if you really want one do it to it.

I have done 2 eunos roadsters and 1 s13 and all I did was go to the dmv and title it as a kit car.
Like I said before its a little pricey to ship,
but its cheaper than buying one already here.
They only charge 300 to take apart the car(without cutting anything)
and it cost me 1300 per container to ship.
