IM sorry guys.. another one ( idle dropping between 900-700)

hey guys by now you might all know... but just in case...
88 gxl n/a manual tranny ( street port rebuild engine and blocked omp and running on premix) over 3000 miles on rebuild still low compression 90 front 85 rear... anyways problem...

i got a new BAC gasket installed it and before it would go up and down about 400 rpms.. now it goes about 300 rpms (it bounces) from 900 to 700... it doesnt shake or anything the car sounds fine at it pulls very very great their is a bit of hesitation in third gear around th3 3500 so i dont know what else... i mean the TPS has been checked by a rotary specialist, i mean the BAC read good voltage i think, i got new spark plus, new starter, new alternator... any ideas?

Check all the moving parts of the throttle body, specifically the thermowax peice that has the coolant running to it. Mine was stuck and the BAC was fighting against it, causing 900-1300 rpm surges that just went on over and over while the car idled. I have removed all the coolant lines from the TB and taken off the complete thermowax assembly. I also removed the secondary butterfly valves and ported out and smoothed out the airways with a die grinder. All that is left on my TB are the throttle cable assembly and the TPS. It now holds a 800rpm steadily with no fluxuation at all, and the power increase was incredible.

The thermowas assembly is the thing on the back of the Throttle body with the hoses running to it. It has a rod in some type of wax. The hoses are flowing coolant. The tod goes to the throttle and keeps your idle up higher untill the coolant gets hot enough to melt it, then the car idles normally. If it malfunftions in any way it caused a multitude of odd things at idle.

umm.... it seems most of the people opt for removing what they called useless thermowax... kinda like gutting the TB i guess... is there a way i can keep this just somehow fix it or find the problem with it?

Theres no point in keeping it. Mazda put out a tech bullitien a few years ago telling all mazda dealers to remove it if any problems were encountered and not replace it. It really doesn't do anything but make the TB hard to get on and off, and pose more risk for coolant leaks. Go ahead and remove it and plug the lines.

***Mazda put out a tech bullitien .....***

Let's see, how should I put this. Oh yes.....BULLSHIT

And before you try to defend that statement, go to http://www.alldata.com/index.html where you can find every bulletin ever put out against RX7's.

I got something for you peru. USually I keep my spare components that I can't replace without an extra..... But your situation seems to warrent this response.

EGR. Yours.

Lets see what this does first before you go crazy on thermowax.

PM me on where to send it.

The deal is I send it and you pop back in the shipping cost to the return address.

Should cost about 5 bucks worst case.

hey man you rule seriously you are probably one of the nicest forum members thanx dude.

But i dont wanna have to tear apart the T/B and the upper intake manifold and probbaly break 2 or 3 bolts... ARE YOU 100% sure thsi will fix this hesitation... teh mechanics said it might be the ACV or the actuators... not enough backpressure... or maybe my fucked catalytic convertor...

On the front of the dynamic chamber there are three vac hose, on above the other. Make sure the two smaller ones are not crossed. If you don't know which goes where, try swapping them for trial run. That would only effect idle. Not the higher rpms.

Woah sorry, didn't mean to pull you panties up your crack. But I was told by some one that mazda had said that the thermowax was useless and should/could be removed. Maybe it was not issued as a tech bullitien but it was said in some form.

Hey paru.

I pm-ed you regarding your PM to me and I didn't get a response yet, so I'm waiting for it.

I thought that you had said that you had to block off the EGR cause you couldn't afford a new one.

I think that its probably harder to tune without it in there.

I also have an ACV you can have too if yours is crappy.
