I'm new... but.......

I'm, new to RX-7's and this board, so I've got a few questions. I'm loooking at an '88 a friend of mine owns. What is the best type of differetial for this car? I want to put a locker in it, but I'm leaning more towards a posi. Too, I want a either a short throw or T-hande ratchet shifter. If anyone has used either some feed back would be great.

Mazdaspeed sells a short throw shift kit. It runs about $215, I think. However, they are notorious for making this unfixable squeaking noise. Personally I think the stock throws are short enough!! But, save your $$, buy some REAL performance mods. Is it N/A or a TII?

depending on the model it may already have LSD.

I agree that this isnt a muscle car. unless it is a seriously modded TII or a very seriously modded n/a you are wasting your time getting that first. put your money into something that might REQUIRE both tires to spin.

It's not a TII, but my friend rebuilt the engine and told me it's got almost all the hi-per stuff, it just needs an exhaust. Yeah I know it's not a muscle car, but they're my true passion and I cant afford one so I'm doing the best I can with what I can get my hands on, so it will be built like a muscle car, deal with it, I do. My friends wife, who was going to sell it on ebay, is pretty sure it's a GLX, but I havn't had the time to look yet. I trust both of them seeing as they are my machinist and my "adopted family" so I've got no doubt as to the cars performance.

#1 It's my first "car". My old man bought a one ton van that I'm getting but, I'm not going to be the idiot to pick my girl up in a van, and like I said I cant afford a muscle car, at least not one I would like, so the 7 is a better deal. I'll also be happy to show a dyno sheet when I get one of a n/a w/ over 250 not squeezed. And this is the only import I like so pleast dont cut the new guy down for loving muscle and liking rear-wheel imports.

Don't worry about those guys. New guys always get flamed. Look under the car, at the rear differential. There should be a tag that says "LSD", if you have a limited slip differential. If not, just buy one! Make sure the car runs well first, though!
