Im losing power.. not sure where to start.

Hot summer day in florida, i floor it in first, and everything revs fine, but i dont go over 20 miles per hour untill around 6k then it seems like something "catches" and I finally get going.
I dunno where to start looking for this. the car is an 88 with 110,000 miles. everything else seems to be in decent shape. Any help is greatly appreciated!

it almost sounds like the 5th and 6th ports aren't opening properly. Check those to make sure they aren't sticking closed or stuck open.

Changing exhaust reduces the exhaust pressure which is what the S4 needs to open the ports.

Hmmm.... do u think it would be related to the hotness of the day, because it seems to only act up when its fairly hot outside.

How would i be able to know for sure if it really is the ports?

Something else here... If the ports arent opening wouldnt I not be able to rev all the way through?

I was thinking it has something to do with the transmission. Though, i think the clutch is fine... I dunno, this is kinda broad isnt it?

BTW the 5th and 6th ports open at 3800 and you would have a hesitation abovw that. Anywho I think its a clutch/tranny problem.

Make sure you don't have clogged cats.

^ My guess is that your kitties are fried.. But before that, a couple of scenarios:

If you floor it from a very slow roll (clutch not engaged) in any gear, does the RPMs jump up before it catches? Like can you sit there and feather the throttle without the car moving? If so, clutch (which you say it is not)

When your temperature is up to normal operating temp, run the car hard (do a few redline pulls in while moving), then quickly check under the car (this is best done at night). Look to see if your catalytic converters are glowing. They'll be located in between the two passanger wells, in between the wheels. If so, your cats are clogged.

Does your car smoke at all? If you have excessive white smoke before it "opens up", you may have a dirty injector that's leaking.
