Question Illuminated keyhole on the right side? Is it possible?

I was in the process of replacing the passanger side handle yesterday when I came to the realization the the handle the dealer sold me has a different electrical connector on it!

The original handle has a smaller connector with only 2 of the 4 wire connections in use; the handle switch, leaving the other 2 unused.

The replacement handle has a larger connector that also has 4 connections, 2 for the switch and 2 for the illumination light bulb. The connector is the same as the one that is on the left door, problem is it desn't match the connector on the right door.

Now you would think that if there is an option for an illuminated right door lock the power would be in the door somewhere, unfortunatly the only other free connector that I found doesn't seem to have power on when the switch on the handle is activated.

Has anybody (Icemark) figured this one out?

You must have a lot of spare time.

A micro flashlight on your keychain would be much simpler..

I think you have a vert door handle, they had illuminated handles.

Perhaps thats not the original passenger handle
Remember, FC's are notorious for bad door handle assemblies.

Hey! don't say that too loud, other will think the same!

Actually, the original handle didn't have the light, the replacement one has it, just wanted to get it going that's all!

Since it's already there...

My GXL coupe has it on the driver side, I don't know if it does in the passenger side. Keyhole bulb still lights up after all these years too.

In my 20 years of digging through 2nd Gens at Pic a Parts, I've never ever ever seen an illumiated passenger door handle. More, I've only seen wiring to powerthe drivers door side, never passenger door side. Only wiring to the passenger door handle is for the factoy alarm trigger switch.

I'd really really like to see what you'r looking at.

BTW, going through the effort to check first and bringing up an old thread that is centered on what you want to post is commendable. Starting a new one is just so much clutter that happens WAY too often on this forum.

Barkz, bad dog!!!

the illumination is the center piece inside the lock that is plastic and see through right? my other rx7's just have metal sleeves inside the lock cylinders where as this one has a clear plastic piece.

Whether or not my grammar is terrible is irrelevant. I'm seeking help where I thought I would be most likely to find it. It's a shame, getting flamed for no reason at all makes it feel like I'm surfing Zilvia or something.

All passenger door handles I've seen have the provision for a light, but I've never seen one either! Gotta remember that it was the drivers handle in Japan, so why make multiple casting dies?

I actually thought about making the pass side key hole light up, but kinda gave up once I found out there wasn't a power source already thru to the key lock-- I'd have to run wires from the drivers door, or at least the ECU box, all the way over there. Just so I can unlock my lady's door, at night, when parked not by a street light. Ehh, not worth it. lol.

And as long as I'm on my cornhole I mean key hole illumination "rant" -- I've repaired them to work in 4 FCs. I take the bulb, rubber grommet & wiring out of the door handle. ALWAYS is the bulb disconnected. I leave the grommet on the wiring, just slide it down some. strip back
a section of insulation maybe 1/4" long. Then, using the little bulb that are for either the ignition key hole or security light, solder that bulb on. ( I obtain them every time I go to a junkyard, for this purpose haha). Tape off your solder joints so they don't short, re assemble, & you're on your way!

Well for my purpose right now I'm just trying to get the light workings for the ignition cylinder. I don't see where the bulb plugs into anywhere.. It's driving me up the wall. Also for some reason my key doesn't unlock my passenger door.. leading me to believe that handle isn't the original one. Works on my driver's handle without the illumination so maybe my car doesn't have this option? It's an 87 T2 but wasn't leather though.

That is exactly what I"ve done (except use shrinking tubing instead of tape) on all my Verts. And all my verts drivers door locks light up. Is my obsesive compulsive showing?
