Angry Ignition Timing Woes

I have an 88 Turbo. I am in California and had to get the car smogged today. I took it in and they said the ignition timing was off. I threw a timing light on the front lower plug and adjusted it for the yellow mark - it was off about 8 degrees.

Then I put the light on the front trailing plug, and it lines up with the yellow mark, too. What gives? All the plug wires seem to line up with the yellow. (I can see the red, off to the left, but it should be near the mark when on the front trailing plug, I thought.) Seems to run OK, but I’m sure I screwed up somewhere.

Any help is appreciated.

I appreciate the advice, and I hate to sound stupid, but, what is the TPS and can I have it adjusted or replaced?

You can adjust it. Sits on the side of the throttle body. Download a factory service manual, it shows you how to adjust it.

Damn! You guys are good. The manuals are great. OK. I have the instructions, but it says I need a “Checker Lamp” (49 F018 001) whick I place on the green connector. With regard to the Checker Lamp, I assume there is a way to get around that or a place where I can purchase one?
