Mine does this to well used to once i get the damn thing working. Every once in a blue moon it would start up and would hold the rev for a half second then drop and if i didn't hold the pedal in for like 4 or 5 seconds it would stall out. weak altinator?

check the hoses coming off the pipe from the air cleaner to the TB, as this sounds like a false air reading problem.

I would get out your manual (you do have one, right?) and go through the trouble shooting process. Maybe something with the idle speed control, throttle position sensor or some kind of vacuum leak.

man, you cant own an rx7 (especially an FC) without owning ATLEAST a haynes manual. damn 80's electronics. 80's was the worst decade ever.

i have a manual..haynes..

if its a vacuum leak then it wouldnt run at all..i mean it would start up and die..but mine will do that unless i press the peddle until its warm they i can let the peddle go and it will idle at 1200-1700 by itself..so i dont think its a vacuum leak...
thanks

yes... that sensor will **** your universe.
its right behind the alternator, a little bit under the alternator, passenger side. two prong plug.
mine has been disconnected forever and its been ******* my world.
that sensor will make your car randomly hesitate, run rich, etc. for some reason, the ecu does some strange things if that sensor is not working correctly.

wrong, if its a BIG vacuum leak, the car will just start and die. a vacuum leak (depending on the size) can do alot of whacky things with your idle. and if your idle is the least bit random, chances are it has something to do with vacuum.

It sounds to me like your throttle position sensor needs adjusting, or its just bad. I had the same type of problem, mine was just bad. I replaced it and had to adjust the new one, and i dont know where you get the little light needed to adjust it. Its a little thing with two wires and a red and green light, the green light is on when its set right, and the red light is on most of the time. Hope thats all it is, hope you can figure out where to get the tool.

to fix the idle, look at the top of the intake manifold and there is a black rubber cap. Pull it off and turn the screw under it, and it doesnt take much turning, if your tp sensor is good. Just listen and check the rpm, it shouldnt take much, a half a turn or so, maybe alittle more.

I have a similar problem. It will only start if I give it some gas. I had to peddle it for a minute or so, then it bounces between 1500 and on the verge of stalling. No smooth idling, just bouncing up n down.... somebody help please....

the "bolt" you broke should be a bolt. to adjust your TPS, there should be a long screw (for use with a flathead screwdriver)
i dont have a picture of the water thermo sensor, but its right under the alternator on the passenger side of the alternator. two prong plug.
