Unhappy Idle Adjustment, Timing, Tps, Bac Unplugged Or Not, Mm Or Lite Test, K.i.s.s. Please

Idle out of specs, and have printed in front of me, info from fc3spro, Wozz, teamfc3s, rxster, and more. Please can someone, or everyone, give me the order in which to adjust. Warm up, unplug BAC or not?, when checking TPS. Talks about wires to check on TPS, says 3 wires, my TPS has six.

I really do understand everything from grounds, to BAC, to vac leaks, etc. must all be functional, but can someone point me to, or detail, 1-10, please. So many variations, and since no manual is "year" specific, I'm just frustrated.

Another Idle post, sorry, but want it right. 1990 FC3C, n/a, manual trans., everything is stock. All emissions intact, and in place.

PEACE THE DOG

And I'm not stating anyone listed above is incorrect, just for my year, I need a little more specifics. Thanks.

Warm it up completely, ground the initial set connector, adjust/check TPS (via voltage or the green test connector) (yes, I know there are 6 wires, that's because a s5 has two TPS's, can't remember which pair it was but I believe it's the green wire you want, and then the ground obviously.), leave the BAC alone, grounding the initial set should keep it in line. (Oh, you can also use the little screw on top of the TB to help get the idle in check, if it absolutely won't, you can adjust the stop screw for the plates until you can get it remotely close to idling)

Thanks again. Going to get plates a little closer than they are now, then I'll go from there. Idle has to be really , really , close before I can adjust the timing. Correct?

Sounds repetative, but I do it all myself, and just want it right.

Well, you can adjust it so long as it's around like 700-900, and get it pretty close. If it's over 1K, forget it.

I had it right at 750-800 nutz, but for some reason, its up at 1100 right now. ? Between the water pump, new belts, thermostat, oil filter housing o-rings, recently, maybe the man upstairs thought I should adjust that also for good measure.

This car turn me into daytime drinker! Got throttle plates ****, grounded initial set connector, TPS at .51, brought up to 1.01 and tightened jam nut. WOT, no big sweeps, but it topped out at 5.65. Time for another TPS, maybe one that works correctly.

Anyway, drove on freeway 35 miles taking a friend to work, and when I was slowing down, in 3rd gear, a lot of backfires, not large and loud, but noticeable. Idled perfect 800, and no vaccum leaks.

Read somewhere about excess fuel, or something, gonna read some more, but searching for ideas in meantime. Anyone?

Thanks again RaT PEACE THE DOG

This last time, did you remember to reconnect the TPS? It will backfire quite a bit if you didn't. More then once, after I adjusted my TPS, I forgot to reconnect it.

Remember, high idle always means too much air. Have you checked for vac leaks throughout the entire system?

I feel like an idiot for wasting peoples time. TPS wasn't plugged back in. Got to many things on my mind. Sorry for the post folks, but thanks Kai. I guess we'll take it out one more time, and then check the TPS and idle.

Swear, I'm sure glad you guys put up with me, cause right now, I can't!!!!!!! Thank God for this site.
