There are a lot of things that can cause weird idles.. maybe its a vacuum hose that is cracked..

^ that would cause a high idle situation though would it not.

Has it been idling low lately? Or is this an isolated incident? If the first, also check your idle setting... I think we need more details.

I'm gonna go with a wild guess and say BAC valve, simply because it was at a stop idling low, probably foot on the brakes, with a/c or heater on and the stereo on, putting load on the alternator causing it to die out.

No, it would not. Usually it could cause a bouncing idle or something else, but usually not a high idle. I too am going to first guess that there is a problem with the BAC, though there are countless possible causes.

I guess it would matter on the size of the vac leak then too right, because when I first re-assembled my motor I had a rather large vac leak and I was idling at around 2k

This could just be my car, but it seems to like to idle lower the warmer it gets. I've noticed when going from a spirited drive to city driving, the car will tend to idle a little low. I don't have any suggestions as to how one might solve this properly, though.

Snug up your throttle cable possibly. When my car (piston driven) is cold, even like 45deg F, it will rev high. I think it might be because the cable shrinks a bit when it's cold and then of course expands/lengthens when it warms up. So you might be able to solve it by tightening it just a bit. (I've done this before and it seems to work ok)

Depends on wether you're turbo or n/a. N/as have it on the drive side of the dynamic chamber, its the little aluminum piece with a blue electrical clip on the front end.

On the turbo its on the passanger side of the intake under the intercooler I believe.

Thats for S4, I'm not sure if S5 will be located the same way since I don't own an S5... yet.

yeah it does seem like it just happens when it gets warm. as soon as it started getting warm my car started doing the same thing, like every couple of days it will idle at 500 and die whenever it wants. i just drive it hard as **** to show it i mean business and then it doesnt stall anymore

but i would also like to know a way to fix this or what might cause it
