Great to know these things, I am going to install a header that has a place for the sensor. I will install a new O2 sensor into it!

I think I saw those years ago on RockAuto and I still can't begin to understand what they were even trying to emulate. These are what factory Mazda mounts are supposed to look like. 2 per transmission. There are no other transmission mounts for FCs

I believe it is the EGR valve that gets actuated in 5th gear over a certain RPM.. . . Which is why most people just blank it off when it goes bad because it is NLA.

Another mystery bolt

What does this bolt go to? the bolthead is 14mm and its length is 4".

It necks down partway along the bolt, wonder why?

Yep, it is the shorter of the two attaching bolts for the starter!
Thanks!

differential mount enquiry

Hi again, I have come across pictures of the mount online, what is the purpose of the block of metal hanging off the mount? is it for vibration, or perhaps sacrificial metal to keep the corrosion down?

Your replies are always appreciated!

This is an educated guess, but I think it's just a damper for vibrations. My car (1986) didn't have that extra piece originally, and I've seen some old diagrams that don't show it. I purchased a brand new mount a few years ago and it includes the metal extension and rubber damper piece as photographed.

My Celica has something similar on the rearmost engine mount. It's removable with a 10mm bolt, and I can definitely feel an increase in vibrations without it.

I ordered them off of rock auto and didn't look real close at the picture because it was on my phone and small. They are not only the wrong shape, they are really big, like engine mount size.

Sounds right, the Mazda engineers did a great job on the RX-7! They made many improvements over the span of production. Not all of them made it into the workshop manual.
Thanks!

What do these ducts do?

I noticed that there is a major difference between a FB and FC transmission bellhousing.

The bellhousing on a FB transmission does not have any openings on it other than for the starter and release fork.

A FC bellhousing has two openings, a long narrow opening at the back right, and a round opening at the front left.

The round opening has a duct bolted to it pointing to the rear, what purpose does this duct have.
I'm assuming that they provide cool air into the housing, the rear one as an inlet and the front one as an outlet for the hot air.
Is the heat buildup in a closed bellhousing an issue with the clutch? How hot does it get when enclosed?

I also assume that the rear facing duct is to prevent any debris getting into the housing and messing up the clutch and flywheel.

Is this a performance modification for the RX-7?
I have to look at a Turbo transmission and see if it was done to these.

What do you think?

The round hole at the bottom is an inspection port. It should be sealed with a rubber plug. The rubber plug p/n N204-16-145 is NLA from Mazda. However, you can buy 3D printed aftermarket plugs on Ebay. Refer to this link: https://www.ebay.com/itm/22566309521...evt=1&mkcid=28

I did not mean the hole that you mentioned, it is the side hole by the starter hole.

What does the inspection hole view?
Thanks

The inspection hole at bottom of transmission lets you view a limited portion of the flywheel/clutch disc/pressure plate assembly to inspect the clutch disc.

You're looking for this item: 16-146 cover, vent (https://www.atkinsrotary.com/Transmi...n-Vent-Covers/)

Thanks for the parts diagram, what is and where does the "blind plug" go (16-241)?

There's a small slot near bottom of the bellhousing. The blind plug closes off that hole. What's its purpose? I don't know. Maybe an inspection port?

Here's a link with some photos: https://www.rx7club.com/2nd-generati...g-what-833167/

I have the slot on my transmission, the shape of the plug looks to me to be some kind of shield for this area. It is not made to be removed with the transmission attached to the engine so that rules out an inspection port.
I wonder what it is shielding?

I will fabricate a plug for the hole, really don't need a piece of debris getting into the housing!
Thanks!

What stud is this?

I'm missing the studs on the left side of the front cover.

The studs are for attaching the P/S-A/C bracket to the engine.

Does anyone have a part number, or know the size?

Here's the p/n N249-10-614. Looks like it's NLA from Mazda. I think those are fine thread M10 studs. Your best bet is to verify thread size/pitch/length and order some studs from either Belmetric or McMaster-Carr. Belmetric may even have a store just north of Boston.

Amayama is good place to get parts. I've bought parts from them a number of times.

I will have to go through their website and see what they have to offer!
I'm just pleased that somebody still has these parts for sale.
