Identify this Plug and why its smoking! Help!

Hello im getting close to starting up my 89 turbo build, YAY!, but there is this one connection that isnt plugged into anything and i dont know what its for anymore as im now just running the bare basics in this build. anyways everytime i turn the key on to turn the fuel pump on etc. this connection starts smoking, getting real hot and burning through the plastic casing. Somebody help?

Unfortunatly i cant upload pics but it is right down by where the 2 white electronic omp plug-ins are its a black plug that inside ressembles a T. 3 wires go into it but the 2 blacks merge into one

Any advice would be greatly appeciated. I dont want to burn my car down

Thanks

If you can't upload a pic, how about a link to a pic somewhere else ?

Remove the space and you can even use a phone pic.

I've looked in the wiring diagrams for the 1990 turbo and nothing stands out. The OMP connectors are on the Emissions Harness. Does this connector come off the same harness right next to the OMP connectors? The two black wires should be ground and it is common to have multiple connections. What color is the other wire? If it's brown then you're looking at a "Check Connector" which I believe is used for diagnostics.

In any case - there is absolutely NO REASON for a connector to normally start smoking and getting hot. It sounds like you have a short in the connector. You need to inspect it and make sure that there is no bare wire and the prongs are not touching. If the plug has melted, then you may need to cut it out and replace it.

Good luck,

-bill

Get on the club on your phone, use advanced reply, manage attachments, and select the pic from your photo gallery.

Or you can connect it to your PC, laptop, iPad, or other tablet and pull the photo from your phone then upload as I said before.

Alternator plug? It's overheating because it's shorting out, something is causing the terminals inside to contact each-other. Separate them.

Doesn't appear to be a solid Black wire based on the pic. What are the exact colors of all three wires including stripes.

The 2 black wires have a white stripe in them and then the single wire is a dark green

If this connector is un needed can i just cut it out and individually wrap each wire in electrical tape and solve my problem of it shorting out in the connector?

We're not interested if it just has a stripe but what is the color of the stripe! This problem could have been remedied a long time ago if you would have just provide the info necessary.

The wiring diagram does not indicate a plug with such wire colors unfortunately.
