Ideas for new motor

This end of this summer I'll have all the bases covered as far as replacing my auto with a TII manual along with nice new tires and refinished rims. Also getting new paint and TII hood on my '89 GXL. This winter I want to build a monster of a motor and need to know which route to take. I would like to stay N/A but if I can push more power for less money then i'll go turbo for sure. I want to keep my budget under $3000 so what kind of motor can I build for this kind of cash. I'm not sure how much porting is going to cost me but shouldn't be much if I just bring the block to my friend and have him race port it for a few hundred bucks.

oh you're going to rebuild your engine yourself?

good

i wouldn't go with 3mm apex seals. i've only heard of a small minority using them, and mostly just for racing applications.

with 3k, does that include fuel pump upgrade, fuel and boost electronics, etc.? little things like that can take up a good chunk. i'd buy all that stuff on ebay personally.

i'm not much of a turbo guy, so i'll leave the turbo stuff to others. but when it's all said and done, leave a couple hundred for some much needed dyno tuning, which i cannot stress, is very very important!

Well I can have the motor built for me for roughly $3000 and its pretty much guaranteed to be a sub 13 second motor. I guy I know builds awesome motors and somehow manages to pull things off with mostly know how and good tuning. He had a GSL-SE that looked stock but ran high 12's with a tweaked stock TII motor. But I would like to build myself.

Not true at all.

I sort of worry about a "sub 13 second" engine built for under $3000.
