Man I though we had it bad if we wanted to put a 20B in our cars. Even a 13bt in an NA. They are auctioning off a JDM Typr-R engine for $5000+. It has 210HP instead of the US 195 I guess. But damn $5000+ for a used one? ****.

yeah.. Integra GS-R motors with the FULL swap, which is Motor, Tranny, ECU, Axles, Shift linkage, Wiring Harness.. um.. that stuff.. goes for around $3500.

The Type-R motor is even MORE expensive.

EVERYONE and their grandmother has a Civic and everyone and their grandmother wants a B16 or B18C1 or B18C5 motor for their Civic/Integra. Understand economics, supply is low, demand is high, prices = way high.

Why do you think I bought an '80 RX-7 for my race car, and a '90 TurboII for my fun car? I spent $1500 and got myself a NICE car with a blown motor, and MAYBE $1500 to replace the motor and other miscellaneous stuff. $3000 and I've got a car that runs 14.4 in the quarter mile with only 5.5psi of boost, gets thumbs up on the road.. you get the idea.

NITRO was correct in that once a proper cam was developed and the SOHC head was ported with a 1mm increase on intake valve size, ans a 2mm increase on the exhaust, the power out put is the same. Actually it's better with the SOHC as the combustion chamber is a better shape than the DOHC, and assuming all else is equal, the chamber config. is what makes it happen, both blown and normally aspirated.
So don't chunk those 1.6 SOHC engines, they can make really good power. For a pure performance application, regardless of application, I'd choose the SOHC. No bull!!
Gee sign me up for the expensive stuff when the common junk is a better place to start...

More anti-Type R from theoldome.com:

You can actually rev the GSR engine higher than the Type R, if your ECU will allow it. The GSR bottom end is stronger than the Type R. You have to remember that the "R" was meant to run at relatively high rpm for short periods, and the lower end components have been lightened accordingly. They also lost some structural integrety in the diet.
