I simply cannot shift into reverse.

I dont know what the deal is. It feels like the reverse lockout is constaintly on. The shifter simply acts like there is no reverse gear and wont let me in no matter how hard I push.

it's the third peadal on the left... sorry; had to be said.

you may have a problem with your idler wheel, since i assume first gear works fine. your selector fork might be bent (not likely) or there may be something under the car that is catching one of the linkages and preventing the motion of that extreme angle where the "R" is always found. i'd take a look under the car.

Linkages? What linkages are you referring to they are all internal?

Yeh, our linkages are internal.

The shift to first works fine.

I hope I dont have to find a new tranny. I've grown rather fond of being able to go in reverse.

Definitely not squeemish.

However, theres really nothing in the lever box besides the bushings (whitch I have already serviced) that can be serviced.

I'm wondering if there is an electronic reverse lockout switch or something that might be malfunctioning, or that I could send an electric current to and fix everything.

well, the shifter just goes directly into the tranny, I supposed you can remove the shifter assembly and check if something like a piece of the bushing broke off and got cought and is preventing it from going in reverse, but I dont even think this is possible.
Might be worth it to remove it and just check if there is anything preventing it from moving. if not then it might be a internal tranny thing.

Do we have a reverse gate lockout?

Anyone know what wires it is, if it is electronic?

Pilot bearing could be at fault.

I pray not, it is practically brand new.
Do you know a way to check for this?

i've had that same problem... then it started working for me the harder i pulled on it... each time that i got it into reverse(was VERY tough the first time) it just got easier and easier....

just pull the hell out of it until you get it in reverse... what have you got to lose? an FC tranny??

and yes.. i know how it felt to be the only kid in school that had to push their car out of the parking lot..

Try going into 4th gear before you shift into reverse. Always works for me.

try shifting into first and then reverse. the way everything lines up it allows you a better chance of selecting reverse

Car off or on, it makes no difference.

Sometimes, if I repeatedly slam it into reverse, and wiggle it and slam and wiggle and so on, it will sometimes go into reverse.

I've noticed if I move the car a little, THEN try shifting into reverse, it sometimes works!

Grr!

my Civic did the same thing, wouldn't go in reverse so I stopped driving it and ordered a tranny... had to drive it a few days later without reverse, do the foot out the door method out of the driveway, drive 30 miles to where I'm going, make sure I leave plenty of space to get out of my parking spot without needing reverse, and go in.

I come out, for the heck of it try to put it in reverse, and it works just fine. Don't know what fixed it... oh well.. the tranny's a piece of crap. Never ended up getting the other tranny anyhow so I got my money back on it.
