TX I Really Need Some Advice?

I have a 91 non turbo rx7 and I have just gotten it out of the shop. It runs beautifully when cold. It has started to act up and I am concerned. After driving it for a while it will then start to lose power and hesitate and backfire. It feels like a fuel problem and my mechanic says the same thing but before he bleeds me dry, I would like some advice as to what it may be. I mentioned to him the tps. Could this be the cause? what about the amplifiers? I don't know much about these particular cars. I am a first time buyer of the Rx7 and would really appreciate some help or some suggestions. Thanks

could be the TPS. Have you checked it? What mods? mileage? overall condition? previous maintenance records?

I started to feel a loss in power. It felt like no fuel. I put it in the shop for a major tune up. I had the fuel filter changed, the sparkplugs changed. I had a new starter put in and there was a very small oil leak coming from the aftermarket oil gauge that I got fixed. The only modification that was done to the car was the air filter. My mechanic says it's so weird. He says it runs like a beast and sounds awsome until it starts to warm up. Then it starts to lose power and start's hesitating. He says it doesn't feel like the tps. He is running a fuel pressure test on it tonight. I just don't know what it could be. The motor was rebuilt and has about 3000 miles on it. It really feels like fuel but I just don't know.

why are you asking us then? Go to the mechanic and have him diagnose it.

It seems like you and/or the mechanic already tested the TPS by the way you've already chucked that possibility out the window. If that's the case then both you and the mech know what's going on more than we do and should continue down the path you've chosen.

Did you not read my first post. I wanted some advice so I could better determine if my mechanic was heading down the right path! Or if he was way off?

My advice is to check the TPS. You said no because the mechanic "says it doesn't feel like the tps" . What more do you want?

Make up your mind man, do you want secondary advice or are you going to go with the mechanic?

I'm with Phoenix. Check the TPS if you haven't already. Might as well just go through the checklist of things you think it is. I'm sure your mechanic can figure it out. They are used to diagnosing these types of things...

well, you should be reading those posts anyways. Look at post #8 in the FAQs for the FSM and search for 3500 RPM hesitation if you don't believe me about the TPS.

FAQ - "My idle sucks or is erratic
Most likely the TPS is out of adjustment, but here is a further article to help:
