Woah!! What just happened?? Noise from engine bay.
I was coming back from eating with my wife last night and I saw my friend up ahead so I decided to screw with him and pass him. After that he was beside me just messing with me and we both got on it full throttle...I was in third. The car pulled for a second then felt like I hit the brakes...I left off the gas and shifted to forth and the car wasnt going anywhere. We pulled over and I was listening and heard a tapping sound so I thought I just blew the engine. When I rev the engine it has a clanking sound...mixed with a tap...kinda like clanktap clanktap. The noise is coming from under the passenger side footwell so I think something happened to the turbo or wastegate. I babied it home...and I found that if I was on the gas the car would still boost and the noise was worse....as long as i kept the boost at around 0 or so on my gauge the noise was not as bad. Also, the car wanted to die at redlights so I had to keep the revs up while I was sitting there. While driving if I let off of the gas completely the noise was gone...so that cant be an engine problem, can it. It only happens while under load. Would it help if I made a quick video of the car doing this?
The car is an 87 TII btw with a stock turbo and engine.
Thanks for any help.

I would guess that your catalytic converter just gave up the ghost.
The ceramic is rattling around in there and causing the noise and the loss of power.
I can't think of anything else that it can be.

^Doubt that would have been my problem, as I hadnt taken mine out before my issue started. Thanks for the input though. Well, I just did a compression check. The front rotor has 90 psi. 1 low bounce and two high, which means faulty side seal. Back rotor has 0 psi...0....and doesnt really bounce the gauge. Sooo, guess I found the problem.
Its crazy how the car was still doin 70 or 80 with ease...lol. The 7 cant loose even when its lost apparently.

thats how my 7 died to. it started up fine but would sound like a big v8 with aftermarket cams idiling. it would shutter almost die and catch itself. its bad news and i ended up frying both housings and rotors when torn apart so hope yours would be different. no cheap way out of it man.
