i never thought i would ask....

grr.. im slapping myself in the face right now as i type, but.... do you think a 86 NA with header, straightpipes, single exit catback, and a k&n filtercharger kit, wideband/safc2 tuned rx7 would beat a stock turbo 1989 toyota supra (automatic with some funky auto redline configuration) ???

It'll be a good race but for some reason I can imagine the Supra beating you by a car & a half. Why don't you hop in your 7 & find out, then come back & prove me wrong.

lol why?, do you like supras more than rx7's?

anyways, i will race him some day, but, if i could guess, i would say he would beat me off the line, and i would catch up.. dont know who would win.. i think it would be a farely decent race

supras are awesome, but you need to consider that the supra weighs almost twice as much as and rx-7.... but they are fast none the less....

1989 Toyota Supra Turbo 6.6 [15.2]
1986 Mazda RX-7 GXL 8.5 [16.5]

1989 Mazda RX-7 Turbo 6.7 [15.1]

If you can beat a TII, then you can beat the Supra (probably).

Don't the old supra's, in stock form, pull around the 15 - 15.5 1/4 mile?
If so, then i'd say yes you can beat him

How do you figure? I mean do you expect him to be pulling 14's or something with the mods he has? No offense to foild but 14's are hard for n/a's usually without porting.

you will lose...My friend has one and its pretty tough to keep up, I have a s5 w/ a stick so I know i'll be faster than you, he's auto too, maybe you could take him in the twisties. I know i'd kill this guy given a few turns.

Its kinda hit or miss with those old supra turbos. The N/A ones are hard to beat if you are stock. I raced one just like the one you mentioned ('89 turbo ATX) and we are about dead even the whole with him a bit a head of me because that much torque will get you out of the hole quicker. But its not what you have on your car thats important. Its how well its tuned and your driving that matters.

Eh, i acutally have both cars. I have a 91 supra targa top.... stock motor, ct-26 upgrade, Fcd, 3.25' downpipe, and i have a 87 gxl. the gxl can take the supra off the line up intill 3rd. gear then the supra will take it. but by the time 3rd. gear is done the race has been .25 of a mile already....( also the supra is at 10 psi and the trans are both Manual.)

Supras are kinda slouches off the line but are monsters once they get going. How that ATX turbo got a jump on me is odd but he couldn't pull and I couldn't gain on him. It was really frustrating.
