I need some opinions

Right now I have an auto tranny and it is slipping really bad. I went to this guys shop asking if he could install level ten kit.
He said why not go with a manual? I thought it would be really expensive but he says he can do it for 850 dollars for parts and labor. The catch is he says you dont need to change out the ECU or the 3.90 gear ratio. What do you guys think? Too good to be true? Thanks for any help. sean

Sounds fair. Probably get a used transmission for 250 from the wreck yard. Then he has to change the counterweights on the engine from auto to manual. A clutch master and slave cylinder. Pressure plate and disc, throwout bearing. Other misc stuff. His labor. Not such a bad deal.

Actually the counterweights would work, IF you went with a lightweight flywheel. Otherwise you remove the rear counterweight and replace it with a stock flywheel. He'll need a driveshaft, and have to drill holes to mount the crossmember... change the brake pedal assembly and add a clutch master cylinder, slave cylinder, line, etc. Not sure about the starter...

I think the price sounds pretty fair...

Tranny swapping on Probes is usually around $1000, give or take a couple hundred perhaps, depending on where the parts come from and who does the labor.

I would imagine that the basic priniciples of swapping are similiar enough to at least compare pricing...

It would probably be the best performance mod you can do. Auto RXs are slow (no torque).
