Talking Passing the FC wisdom on to the next generation...

I thought this was kinda funny. Anyone ever play Racing Jam by Konami? I was playing it at The New York hotel in Las Vegas. In addition to many other cars, it has a modified 87-88 FC Turbo and a red FD. It's pretty fun since it has a working clutch and parking break, but the graphics are kinda dated since it was from 1997.

Here's the story; some 14-15 year old guy before me played around fifteen times and got his initials at 2nd place on the lap time list. Our conversation went like this:

Guy: "Yeah, this game is so cool. You gotta use the Integra. I've played like fifteen times and I got my name in the top 10. See?" (pointing to screen.)

Me: "Hey that's cool." (Thinking )

I put my coins in and highlight the FC as my car.

Guy: "NAWWW MAN! You gotta choose the Integra. There's no way you'll win in that old thing. That car sucks."

Me: (calmly) "Yeah, well I like this car. This is my car."

Guy: "You mean that's your car in real life?"

Me: "Yeah."

Guy: (laughing) "Oh...Well you suck."

Now I'm feeling just a wee bit offended. The first time around I hit the walls trying to get used to it while the guy is chanting "You suck!" I then notice that all you have to do is pump the gas while turning and the car drifts perfectly through. So the second time around, I do a perfect run and I get first place in the race. I also get first place in the time list.

Guy: "OH Dang, you beat my time man!!"

Me: "Yeah, and I did it on my second try." (There's always room for a litte gloating )

Sudddenly it's...

Guy: "Hey, so I guess those RX-7's really are fast. What year is that car? What's the difference between that RX-7 and the other one? (FC and FD)" And bunch more questions...

I come back later and he's racing with the FC.

Well, it feels good to know that I may have just pointed a would be future riceboy in the right direction.

haha...badass story. I've never even heard of that game...I'll have to look it up. I usually don't play the unrealistic "arcade" racing games, but if gots RX-7's in it...

Hey, if you get a chance, check out this game: Battle Gear 2 By: Taiyo.

I guarantee you won't be disappointed. Plus, don't even bother trying out the PS2 version, it's pathetic. Arcade only. Just play it at the arcades. PLus it's up to 4 people at once while the PS2 is only 1 player.... SUCKASS!

Peace,
AJ ^_^
