Exclamation I Need A Quick Answer!!

If i remove the ACV, put on a blockoff plate, and remove the air pump will my 5&6th open? or do I need to do the TB mod? How did you guys plug the vacuum lines when you removed the air pump and ACV?

If your car is an 87, then if you remove the ACV, and The Airpump, you should still be okay, as long as your Cats are still intact. The 6-ports work on backpressure from the exhaust.

But keep in mind, if you remove your Airpump, you are running the risk of frying your cats

Put the airpump back on, or remove the cats... There is no other way. If you remove the cats, you are gonna have to devise another way to actuate your 6-ports or wire them open....

The airpump supplies fresh air to the Cats to help with the chemical reaction. Without the fresh air, the cats will be history in a few months or sooner.

No. You can connect the airpump directly to the split air pipe and by pass the ACV. This should allow you to run a cat with no ACV (though what's the point?).

My advice: leave everything alone unless you are planning to go full exhaust (headers, no cats, catback).

has anyone ever tried running the small second tube from the air filter straight to the split air pipe, bypassing both the ACV and the air pump? i would have to put something to stop the air from trying to back up the tube though right? just a thought

Test pipe, or race pipe. These are straight pipes that will bolt in to replace the Cats. Most exhaust places will make one for you as long as you tell the its for racing purposes.

if i dont have an air pump will it mess up my exhaust? i mean i paid a shitload of money for my borla exhaust and performance high-flow cats so i dont want to screw it up. would i be better off just leaving the damn airpump on there and just doing the TB mod? how much does the TB mod help in the high rpms???

Okay...Here is the deal. If you have aftermarket cats, and you want to save them, get a race pipe fitted so you can swap out the cats for the straight pipe whenever you want to. Advantages to that is you can remove your airpump and all that junk...But when it comes time for emissions, you can bolt all that stuff back in.. Plus your cats will last longer. But dont tell any tree-huggers that I recommended that to youu..

As far as the TB mod, I cant really say, I have never performed this mod.
