AZ I need 255 walbro help!

ok, hi every1 im new
im currently working on my TII jdm swap in my 1986 rx7. Today i removed my old fuel pump getting ready to install a new 255 walbro fuel pump.
I did a search on here and never found my answer only how to set it up
I would like to know if I need the fuel pump strainer aka that filter looking screen at the bottom of the pump? the one in the car is all yucky and torn plus has black lil rocks inside it. the walbro didnt come with one either so can i run the pump with out it?

any help is extremely appreciated!

You can probably contact Vivid Racing for the fuel sock. You need to install one...

A brand new walbro kit is supposed to come with its own filter sock. But as mentioned, you can't run without one at all.

Throw it away and get something else. I have had two brand new Walboros fail on me. I would recommend you at least get a fuel pressure gauge and wideband 02 so that you can see if and when the pump fails. Some people have run them for years with no problems. Others like me have hand them fail within a couple of days or weeks after installation. I would not risk a blown engine and use one again. Juat another $150 thrown away, but better than blowing my engine.

For what it's worth, this is what the kit is supposed to come with. The rubber piece for the bottom is necessary to make it fit in the stock pump's location. And the filter is considerably smaller than the stock one too.

WOW thanks for all the info! A local rx7club member let me have his "sock" (that sounds funny) so I guess you get what you pay for because I bought the walbro for only 20 bucks. although it was new, I only got the pump. no sock, no connector. being cheap eventually cost more

so a stock fd fuel pump flows the same as a walbro 255? and its pretty much direct replacement like the 255?

No, it doesn't flow quite as much as a walbro GSS-341. But it will flow plenty for the stock turbo @ max safe boost, and it won't overwhelm the stock FPR (rich idle). It is exactly the same size and shape as the stock FC pumps, so it's an even simpler fit.

At 40psi & 14v like walbros are rated, the stock FD pump would be about 200-210 LPH from what I've gathered. And the stock TII pump would be about 140-150 LPH. There's some flow testing data floating around for various pumps. I actually just got done summing this kind of thing up in a thread in the new member section: https://www.rx7club.com/new-member-rx-7-technical-256/whats-crackin-fuel-pump-question-877428/.

It's really damn hard to tell the FC & FD pumps apart. All those Densos look pretty similar, but you might be able to find a part number on it & compare that to a parts fiche.

Huge help i guess i'll know when i out-flow it( or not ). I have a fuel pressure guage.

Is there any risk in burning a stock pump up.. I've rewired battery voltage to the pump, but not split 10v/14v like stock, just a relay that makes it 14v all the time boost or vacuum....But this is disable for the moment and is setup like stock. Only when i'm at the track do i swap it over to 14v via relay.

Sorry for the threadjacking, i am just trying to spounge a little bit more info

What you're talking about is the "fuel pump rewire" that people commonly do on TIIs, which bypasses the resistor/relay to get constant full voltage. But there's no risk of damage, just slightly worse mileage and a richer idle. S4 NAs don't even have the resistor/relay, so the pump always has full voltage.
