I keep getting wet

I have an 88 vert and normally a vert would leak around the top, mine is leaking i believe from the bottom of the door panel. I m pretty sure its the plastic and i m having a hellish time trying to stop the leak, I haven't found anything that will stop it i tried duct taping the bottom of the plastic, it only gets wet when it rains a lot or when i wash the car. the tape lasted about two years, i re did it and the driver's side i just noticed the dampness under the floor mat and parts of the carpet near the door. I was also wondering if they put anything under the factory carpet to prevent molding, other wise my car is gonna stink.

Replace the plastic with some thick plastic (home depot) and glue it on with some windshield sealant (the balck gooey stuff they used from the factory).

Might also want to take a look at the condition of your side moldings on the outside of your door, at the base of the glass... they have a tendency to rust and wear out, and there is a small "squigee" type scraper in there to minimize water from entering the door.

Also, might want to check all of the drain plugs at the base of your door to make sure they are not plugged.

It would be advisable to use a wet/dry vac to suck as much water as possible out of the upholestery as possible, as mold will develop if left wet. Even better would be to use a carpet/upholestery cleaner and to let the car air dry out with a heater in it for a few days.

Everytime I've buy it, I got the stuff that comes off a roll and is semi-hard... it's much like putting on plasticine. The stuff doesn't need to cure; it doesn't harden any more than when you first put it on. I clean the painted area first with some solvent/kersone, and then wipe it down to make sure it is clean.
You should be able to find it at any auto parts stores.

You can also buy the very thick silicone-type windshield sealant, but I don't think I would like to use that for this application.

A guy in another forum was saying that the outside window seal was the reason i was getting so much water in my door is this a possibility? I mean mine appears to be in great condition no tears etc, but it doesn't exactly stay pressed against the glass of the windows.

Maybe he was trying to spell prawn. You know, like he was trying to say " Yay for crustaceans! WOO! I heart shellfish!"
