i just want my 7 done, please give advice

Alright so let me start by saying i searched and found nothing. So i have this fb with 220,xxx miles, blown motor, stripped interior, needs brakes and lots of little things. So i got a 12a motor for free because it had a ragged sucked in through the intake ports.(dont ask me how) I take apart the motor to find out that the engine was absolutly mint. Now parts are ordered so i can make a 12a that i can beat the ever lasting **** out of. Recently i been thinking my fb is just a peice of junk and want to get my fc running because it only has 90k, everything it needs besides a motor, its custom, and unique . I planned on a s5/s4 13bt but ran out of funds about halfway. Now what will it take to get a 12a into an fc? I still do have some money and such but if i do a 13bt its going to be done right with estimated 350rwhp and that cost way to much. I already got everything i need to make a perfect 12a but i dont want it in the first gen. Anyone who can help i apprecate a lot because im tired of using my dads miata(even though its damn nice but i just dont want to beat on HIS car) Thanks, nick

12a into an Fc is not a common swap. With that said I take it you plan on going carb'ed? The trickiest part is going to be mounting the motor into an Fb because the 12a mounts are upfront. Overall its not that hard of a swap just not worth the effort in my opinion. Good luck!

Yeah i have a racing beat holley intake kit, port kit, clutch, exhaust, rebuild kit on way and ect. Im going to have a solid motor but want to put it in my more solid car. Can i just use a gsl-se oil pan and front cover on the 12a? Or will this not help me what so ever? Also the 12a will bolt up to the T2 tranny no problem, wont it? Thanks, Nick

Tranny will bolt up no problem there its the actual motor mounts that will give you a tough time. Changing the se front cover and oil pan wont help you put that motor in any easier in the Fc bay as the s4 and s5's mounts are on the center iron and mount accordingly. 12a's and se motors mounts are up front.

So im looking at the center iron to the 12a and it seems possible to fab up something to mount to it. Theres enough meat on the iron to recreate the way the 13b's mount so i hope. Im going to grab an 13b center iron and compare them and see whats do able. I do know that the 12a is like roughtly 20mm shorter so the mounts more than likley wouldnt line up but im going to see whats possible. Any more input would be great. - Nick

This is going to be a major hassle. The 12A mounts at the front cover, the 2nd gen 13B on the middle iron. If you mount the 12A on the middle iron, the transmission will move up towards the front of the car and you'll need to make a larger driveshaft and possibly notch the shifter hole.

In addition, you'll need to convert the EFI high-pressure fuel system to a low pressure system suitable for a carb (either swap the pump or install a bypass regulator), wire in the dizzy and coils, rewire the alternator, fab up parts of the exhaust, etc.

Keep in mind that the stock 12A makes about 100HP, while the stock S4 13B makes 146HP. Installing the 12A would be a lot of hassle for a downgrade.

reading Aaron's post, I'd say sell the engine, and continue with your 13bt. Just my two cents, though.

if its bossible just swap crossmember and you wont have to deal with making your own mounts. The 12a drive shaft it bigger and longer but the yoke is smaller then a 13b i believe.

I hope your getting an after market carb those stock 12a are a mess. they look like an octopuses

You can't "swap the crossmember". The 1st gen is a totally different car then the 2nd gen. Also you can't use the 13B center iron in the 12A since the coolant o-rings are in the wrong spot.

I give up

Well after thinking for a long time i came to the point where the 12a should go to its orginal place(the FB). Parts just started coming in so im going all out on the engine so i can finish it and drive the fb for alittle while. Aaron i planned on having the engine fairly worked so it would be like a stock s4 n/a but considering how hard its goning to be to mount it then i give up and going to throw it into its normal home. This sucks because i just want my fc on the road but i might was well wait and drive the fb for alittle bit. Hey i might as well do it right.......right? lol So im going to finish the fb, drive it for like two months or so, then its up for sale on the forums. Thanks for everyone trying to help out. Hopefully things go smoothly with the build. Thanks- Nick
